I had it confirmed yesterday that my shoulder is caput. I will be having an operation on it probably the first week of February, too much carrying water and huge haynets! Apparently the muscle tissue is OK, but tendons are barely holding together. I knew in August that this pain was different than the usual pulled muscles and arthritis.
I should be taking things easy now, and for at least 3 months after am not allowed to do anything strenous while the repairs have time to heal and grow strong with a program of physio.
I have therefore made use of Admins free re-homing ads and one to sell my 2 year old colt. Please look at them. If anyone wanted one of the ridden mares for longer, than the 6 months that I need to not have them around, thats fair if you want to have the benefit of summer and send them home for next winter, or maybe longer if things are working out well.
I don't want to become the next welfare statistic, and as my job doesn't come with sick pay, the extra pennies are not there to pay for help for someone to do them - assuming I could get anyone for 7 days a week for a couple of hours a day.
For anyone on the Wirral who can care for a horse for 7 days a week, they could stay put and be loaned out on the premises so to speak. I just think if anyone takes the horse away, they are more likely to be committed to the loan and not leave me in the lurch at a critical time.
As per previous threads, I would appreciate people from different areas doing a visit for me if they do go on loan, I already have an offer from the Manchester area to do visits round there.
I do hate not being in control and the timing could not have been worse with the credit crunch affecting so many others.

Hi pat
I am a long way from you but if you did find a loan around the Suffolk area I would be happy to visit for you and make sure your horse was OK.
I know how you feel, I snapped the ligament in my shoulder 18 months ago and it has never healed properly as I can't rest it like I should. Fortunately I am able to grit my teeth and manage!
Good luck with finding homes for the horses and with the shoulder.

The consultant said basically the same thing, they won't operate on anyone older but try to see if steroid injections calm it down. He doesn't think its worth trying those as thankfully (I suppose?) I am still in the operable age group.
Thank you all for the offers to keep an eye on my horses, it could be a busy time ahead for me. |

My hairdresser just had a similar op this summer. You will need to take a good, long time to get yourself to rights afterwards; it's a fairly big operation (if it's anything like the same!) and you'll need physio after. Hope you have people there to look after you?
All the best with the rehoming and with the operation. |

Poor you, how upsetting to have to sort that out on top of the worry of the injury itself. All the best for recovery and lovely homes. |

Sorry to hear you're not well - hope the op goes well and you feel better after that. Must admit that I've been drooling over your colt but as we no longer have any room for more horses on the yard (we now have two more horses than we have stables so they are all in/out on strict rotation) there's no way I can help so good luck and fingers crossed you find somewhere lovely for all of them. |

wow, thanks for all the offers of help checking horses. The ads are on the sales pages, / wanted / homes wanted. I have 2 ridden mares, a lead rein welsh pony and SE colt for loan. That still leaves some at home, Rosa and her foal, that my friend can do for me when she does hers next door, but she has problems of her own and can't take on these other five! It will probably be easier for her if I don't wean the foal, but if I do then Rosa could also be ridden and join the others on loan. Shes been backed and hacked in walk ant trot, very sensible little Crabbet mare.

Pat, consider any horse/loaner you manage to rehome in my area (Herts) thoroughly checked. If I hear of anyone looking for a loan Arab, I will put them in touch with you.
If there is anything else I can do to help, please give me a shout.
Good luck with your shoulder, and remember to look after yourself (easier said than done I know)
Carla, xx. |
