Hi Pat,
I can't help with the temporary re-homing as no space but am willing to go check out a loan home if you want, I live in the Cambridge/Suffolk/Norfolk boarders.
If there is anything else I can help with just ask, can't promise anything but will do my best. Good luck with your shoulder.

So sorry to hear of your dillema, I can't take any of them, but what I could do if you get really stuck is....wait for it....haha, iv'e been trying to think of a way to help....come and stay at yours for a week, if 11 others offer that would give you 12 weeks of care for your neds, mind, you would have to keep us.
ps, I am seriouse. |

Actually Jilly that's not such a bad idea. Come on guys what do you all think of that? I could probably manage a week in March when my boys could go out so that OH could cope with them. This might be a goer if all else fails. |

Don't laugh it might come to that! The crunch time will be from the date I go in, early Feb, through to end of March, by which time I hope I am driving again. After that, if I could get some help for a day at the weekend to fill a round haylage bales worth of nets, and fill the waters, I can do feeds with my 'good' arm and head counts. I already do most at the weekend, as although I technically only work afternoons, during school hols and if the kids are sick I do 8am to 6 pm, and I always like to be a couple of days ahead in case I am called at ten minutes notice. |

I think there is an business opportunity there for someone to design some workable labour saving gadgets for us horse slaves. In my case, a tap for running water would be a good first step, when it stops raining we have to take water down, as the roof areas can't collect enough to keep the baths filled, even with the 1000 litre tanks.
A device to unroll haylage and fit it into nets, and hang them without human assistance......A mini scraper to get inside the shelters / stables to get the muck out. I do know someone who used a cement mixer for the feeds, but it still had to be filled.
We must be mad to do all this for an animal, we are supposed to be the intelligent species. But where would we be without them?

On sunday mornings i used to put the long hose on the predator and do a very lazy form of mucking out - beautifully clean boxes afterwards mind. |

Sorry to hear about your shoulder and your worry over who will look after your horses. This has always been my nightmare---what would happen if I can't see to the animals since I do them all myself---but when I broke my wrist last year friends rallied round and all was well. It comes as a shock how little you can do with one hand.
Best of luck. |
