I have now got Raz to the weight I want him, its taking lots of work and adjusting his feed/grazing.... I really don't want him to lose anymore over the winter months, even though he is still carrying a little extra over his ribs...
What would you suggest I do to maintain his current weight??
He's been coming in at night and having well soaked hay, turned out on thin grazing for 9 hours a day (but he can be moved over to decent grazing)... He has a round scoop of HIFI lite chaff and dodson&horrell high fibre nuts with small amount of cod liver oil and NAF magic with his carrots, once a day.... He is clipped so rugged with medium weight stable rug at night and light weight during the day.... He's lightly schooled and hacked... and he's a good doer....
Should I up his soaked hay / extra hard feed / change hard feed / add some beet .... advice would be greatly appreciated...
If he is doing well and you are happy with his weight why not add some sugar beet to his usual feed as its a great winter warmer and when the temperature drops it will just give him a bit extra fuel.Mind you,I am no expert, its just what I do when it gets colder
