My filly was out in her paddock today (electric fence Paddock), she is being weaned for the past few weeks but unfortunatly today something must of happened. Not sure what but she must of got out into the front walk way leading up to paddocks and the other pony next door who isnt socialised with others some how did the same, think he must of really frightened her as she pushed through a fence in the corner that for some reason had barbed wire on it. She must of squeezed through at the same time catching the wire. She has a few scratches but one tare that is not deep but taken a slice of skin off of her shoulder. Think she will have some brusing. She has been so happy and so good.
I am praying she doesnt scar as i am hoping to take her to a few shows next year
I know i have been doing horses for years but was wandering what others use to stop scars there is things that are much more up to date than i would use

Sorry to hear about her accident. Luckily, I'll think you'll find she has time on her side. Our yearling and 2 yrold had horrendous accidents at the beginning of the summer. Totally unrelated, but both shredding legs. The two year old needed stitching. We used something called Demobian (sp) with her, but with the yearling we just used an antiseptic cream that the vet gave us. 5 months on and you would never know they had injured themselves - it's incredible. Our vet said had they been 6/7 yrs old they would never have healed so well. I'm sure others on here will be able to recommend other products but I think her age will be her biggest advantage. Hope she heals well. Have you given her arnica for the bruising? |

Thanks trinity, i said to my friends i know that it will help her having young skin, I gave her some butless to help with her bruising, she was such a good little patient but i could tell it was very soar, she must of hit the fence with some force being so frightened. Its amazing sometimes what they get through relatively unscathed. I just hate seeing her so down, I think she was in a little shock as she thinks everyone should like her bless her. I never put mine in with anything other than my own usually stay scar free, I always take such care but goes to show cant protect them.
Glad your two made a good recovery |

ive usesd a product called dermafilm i think its from horse health?(not sure will have a look on the bottle!)anyway its brilliant,it encourages hair growth on the scar and stops the pigmentation so the hair grows back the same colour,as well as being antiseptic and like a plaster but in a gel,its really good stuff. Em X (it also stops proud flesh) |

Is there anything that helps scars that have already formed? My mare scars terribly easily, even from minor scrapes. I've tried cocoa cream (someone at work suggested it) with no apparent success (although she did smell extra nice!) Incidentally all scrapes etc always washed, checked, antiseptic applied as necessary, and so on. |

for bad injuries you can use B12 [cytacon] tablets once you have a scab formed. excellerates healing and reduces proud flesh, have had unbelievable results even with horrendous injuries
to reduce exsisting scars you can use vit E oil to soften and fade [also very good for stretch marks on woman so l am told]
arnica is good for soft tissue injury and bruises
