Not last saturday but the saturday before Star came in from the field with a kick to his muzzle
I rang the vet who said just keep it clean as it was too late to stitch as it looked like it had been done friday evening so i put some ice on his muzzle as it was quite swollen and gave him some bute and he had to stay in anyway as we were worming the next day the swelling had gone down so he went back in the field that night and he seemed fine so we followed the same routine in during the day and out at night and bathing his cut and putting dermagel on it.When i went to put him out last tuesday he was laying down which was unusual as he is so keen to go out when i gave him his dinner i noticed he was shaking he ate all his dinner but then he was very tired looking and started looking at his belly so i rang the vet who came out and said he had mild colic she gave him a pain killer and she said the cut to his nose could do with antibiotics his temperature was high as well she also put the tube up his nostril and gave him a rectum excamination which showed no blockage anyway she said to walk him every hour and take his hay away which i did i stayed at the yard with him most of the night and when i left he was laying down but he was not distressed at all which to me he didnt look like he had colic. The next morning when i got up there i noticed his right side of his face was swollen and he had a bit of gunk coming out and every time i walked in the stable he would tilt his face as to show me it was hurtingI rang the vet again and she came out and he had a high temperature again so she gave him another pain killer and said if he doesnt pick up within the hour she wanted him in for a head xray.Well he picked up with in 10 minutes of her leaving and he started to eat some hay of the floor when all of a sudden this green gunk started pouring out his nose so i rang the vet again and she said it looks like his sinus was blocked and it has released now which was good newsWell he has been on antibiotics for a weak now and he still has got stuff coming out of his nose so i rang the vet again as i feel he needs another weaks supply of antibiotics and she said he can only have another 3 days supply and if it hasnt cleared up by then she wants him in the vets to drill into his face which looks a horrible opperation.I am just wondering if any one has had a similar problem and how you have delt with it.The vet doesnt think it was brought on by the kick but he hasnt got any infected teeth and he was very healthy until this happened. Please if anyone has any advice good or bad i would like to hear from you as i am very stressed and i just want to do the best for him as hes my baby and is loved very much

Hi Donna my friends horse suffered terribly with his sinus and in the end had to go to the royal veterinary college she has had many problems with him (they were even talking about having him pts - they talked about operations etc.)until she got him hair tested it is from a company called Crossgates (hope its ok to post that) but they give you a homeopathic spray and within 48hrs he was a different horse it really helped and works wonders. in fact they do it for humans as well and i have had it done on me.... if you need any more info please feel free to pm. The company will come back with the spray very quickly turnaround is normally 48 hours...
Emma.

Well just an update really the other vet said the same as the first oneSo friday afternoon i managed to get Star into the vets for a head xray as i couldnt let it carry on as he was so down in the dumps. The xray showed the blockage so the vet said he did need the op to drain it as it was causing him so much painSo as i went in to reception to sort out a date for him to go in when the vet called me back and said she had got another vet to look at it and where the swelling in his cheek was so big it was going to burst out so the hole was already madeand if i had time she would do it there and then as he was already sedated so it was best for him really as it would release all that build up of pressure, anyway a small hole was made and he has got the drain in and they flushed it through with iodine.I stayed with him all the way through and he was so good.I brought him home friday night and stayed with him for a few hours to make sure he was ok.When i got up there yesterday morning it was like seeing the old Star back he was pulling me round the yard and seemed so much happieri flushed the solution through his tube and he just stood there as good as gold then he was allowed out in the field as the vet said it will help with his recovery and also help it to drain so he goes out with two small ponies which i know he is fine withHopefully he will be fine nowi have to flush the solution through twice a day untill his nose is running clear and there is no horrible smellI have already noticed a big difference so once it is completely clear the vet will come out and take the drain out and staple the hole she said if he does scar it will be very minimalThe vet said it was caused by the kick to his nose which i said all along she said it was the trauma of it allSo at the moment he will be fine going out with these two ponies but i really dont want to risk him going out with the rest of the horses as Star might not be so lucky next time
