I really sympathise- mirshid hate being left on his own either in stable or paddock- but is fine when out. He has a real pair bond with my first pony william- neither of them seem particularly bothered by other horses coming or going if they have each other. My YO keeps saying that I shouldn't let them be dependant but I think it makes them more comfortable and relaxed so don't see the problem!. Additionally and slightly off topic but we now have a grass livery on are yard whose owner seems to find it bizarre that her horse stands and calls all day- YO says the horse should get on with it and the owner just says the horse is 'emotional'- I'd be emotional if I was on my own all day every day! I agree with the others though maybe get a little companion or move to a yard with more likeminded people

Hi Lyndilou,

The reason I may seem suprised is that his stable is next to the field so he can see them fully and they will stand near his stable!.If he was shut in a yard and could see no other equine or nothing going I could see why it was happening!.
Rysch has it to the extream and if another horse even walks past him in to the yard then out he would be 10 times worse!.
I had a cod years ago who didnt care about being part of a herd he was happy being alone for hours but that was just him!.
Thankyou all for the help and advice (I feel a move is the only way)
Rysch would love to live out 24-7 and did when he was a baby but with his mud fever and this yard being so very muddy I cant risk it! he needs a brake off the mud!

Thankyou all xxx

Emily , they are all different, but some may have a stronger desire to be with the herd others, I have found many have been brain washed from years of seperation, ( I know of one horse who became agraphobic and wouldnt come out of his stable and shook with terror if he did come out for any reason I know you have his best interests at heart which is why you asked for help, I hope you manage to find a place where he can be happy, good luck

Hi Emily, just wondered how you and Rysch were getting on ? Really hope you are ok, and it's all not getting too stressful?
Let us know if you've had any luck. It's such a shame you are not surrounded by nice caring horsey people who can help you out with this. But I really hope you're getting some improvement whatever you choose to do.
Good luck

Hi. I really feel for you and agree with others that you will need to move yards. This yard just doesn't seem to be working for you, not just because of the current problems, but also the fact that the hacking is so dangerous. I'm lucky coz my mare Brambles doesn't mind being left on her own, either in the field or in the stable. The horse that she shares a field with is different though, and if we bring Brambles in for ANY reason we have to bring Rossi in as well. Strangly Rossi is fine left in his stable alone and hacks out and travels on his own. I'm not sure what will happen this winter as Rossi's owner has changed jobs and doesn't get to the yard till late. She's on DIY, where as my landlady gets my horse in for me, and she has to be at work by 5pm. Brambles and Rossi are still living out at the mo, and we hope that they will stay out until early Dec (will be in this sat coz neighbours got fireworks). We don't keep a strict routine on our yard as feel that causes as many problems as it solves.

Cherie
