Took small child to her first rally today.....
Well..... I wwas SOOOOOO relieved to get home!!!
Got up to the feild nice and early to make Sox look presentable and pretty and to spoil poor Razzie (who was to be left screaming from the stable for a few hours.....)
Sox decided he was NOT going to come in!! (which really is a first - coming in means food so he ALWAYS comes in!! - NOT TODAY!)
After 20 minutes of slipping a sliding in the mud, litttle bugger (sox not small child) decides he now would actually like to come in - just like that...
....meanwhile poor Raz had been stood in his stable after bringing himself in munching on hay as good as can be but with a confused look on his face questioning why there is hay when there is plenty of grass in my field - I don't need hay, I'll only be in my stable for my breakfast.... won't I????
I left small child to make Sox look presentable - obviously during the night he had arranged a private mud bath for one and is now caked in it!!!!
I go over to the other feild to see how grumpy OH is getting on starting the lorry... he was muttering something under his breath like "bloody horses, what am I doing here in the pouring rain!"....
Lorry is not yet started because grumpy OH can't open the lock on the gate..... bugger! I fiddle with the lock for a while and send grumpy OH off to my feild to get some WD40... he finally comes back looking as happy as ever.... squirt WD40 down lock, fiddle fiddle fiddle - lock opens... phew!! I send grumpy OH off to sort lorry out....
Go back to small child... "mum, I forgot my clean jods" - arrrrrghhhh! Grumpy OH phones "no bloody diesel in the lorry" qrrrrrrgggh!! bugger.... So send him off to get diesel and little buggers jods (small chld not sox)...
Time is running away very quickly now... I'm starting to panic - one remembers buying rescue rememdy for Raz... rumage around in pocket - some for Raz, some for me, some for raz, some for me.... much better now!!!!
Right so time to brush over the bits that small chld has missed on sox (EVERYWHERE!!), check that raz has everything he needs, and lots of etc carrots in his breakfast.... so.... where is OH and the lorry..... c'mon we needed to leave 10 minutes ago!!
chug chug chug here he comes.... I send small child over to the lorry with her saddle and bits... I give Raz a Kiss and walk over with sox....
OH actually thinks ahead and has lowered the ramp for us... walk sox to the lorry and get out his new travel fleece, to find that the shop have left the security tag on - how embarrassing - people are going to think i've nicked this!!! oh well, too late now, hopefully nobidy will see.... boots on ready to go....
Lead him up to ramp - "c'mon on then sox" I say as I walk him on the ramp..... "no" he says as he stands there in protest... "what do you mean 'no', we should have left 25 mins ago".... "listen, my mate is screaming for me, I don't think i should go" he says as he remains definant...... "C'mon, raz will be fine, you are going to meet some new friends, what about if i give you a polo??" I bribe... (cheap shot I know but we are really running late here!) I wave a polo under his nose "Alight then" he says a plods on like an angel...
saddle - check
hat - check
riding gloves - check
small person - check
pony - check
OMG - We are ready to go.... but we really should have left 35 mins ago!!!
chug chug chug - we're off!!!
40 minutes later - we're lost - bugger
50 minutes later - we're late - bugger
we eventually make it there try not to scratch any of the shiny brand new range rovers and spanking new top of the range trailers as I park.... already I am thinking we are way out of our league - they must be thinking "the dingles have arrived"....
Small child is very excited, pony is very excited... not a good mixture!
She goes off for her lesson and despite a very excitable bucking and cantering on his toes pony she thoroughly enjoyed herself... Considering how full of himself sox was, she did SO well and wasn't phased by anu of it....
Made a very VERY stressful morning well worth it!!!
One thing I really wasn't keen on - I didn't realise that the mythical "pony club kick" was actually a thing of truth!!! I stood watching all of these beautiful expensive well schooled ponies being pounded in the ribs... I felt so sorry for these ponies... they were all completely dead to the leg and were all continously being kick kick kicked.... it really does make me cringe!! I did tell lauren NEVER EVER kick your pony... I reminded her that if i did ever see her kicking her pony, I will kick her!! She know very well to squeeeeeeeze!!!!!!

Great account of the day Kirsty. So pleased the little one enjoyed herself.
I take it you are off again next weekend then?
You will soon be wearing a head scarf, and barbour jacket, and will be one of the pony club mothers...

hi stick with it , pc is brill for kids, today we have been pony club team jumping, in between feeling sick , when it was my daughter's time to jump , we had a great day. We ( my daughter and lacky mum & dad) do loads of pony club events , the more you do , the more your child gets from it !
NOT ALL opps pc are snobby , you just have to not be intimidated by the gold set :-) |

Back in the day we hacked to rallies and shows, only ever five miles away for most of us at that time. I well remember taking small child, my four year old sister on her 10.2 Welsh pony, I would have been 12, well the way back was eventful, let her off lead rein and she raced us along grass verge towards busy T junction, turned back laughing at us that she was winning. We are still here! be thankful for OH and transport. I would not even know where my local pony club is now, but with 5 year old grandchild need to find out!

ha ha... yes.... foolishly booked her in for one a week... I am currently on my third malibu and coke - I haven't touched a drink for 6 whole weeks!!!!!
Don't think you'll catch me in a head scarf just yet but one of those not-so-fetching awful long coats with the MASSIVE collars that they all seem to wear in varing colours.....mmmmmmmmm...... maybe not....
They seem to be very popular in the horsey world so most of you reading this probaly have one - but come on, they are ugly and awful fashion disasters are they not!!! I've forgotten what they are called now - but they even have a cult name!!! :D
the gold set - made me giggle - I was just looking on ebay for a matching new travel set for him!!! lol.... maybe i'll just leaving him in his clashing purple rug and green boots - just to make a statement of lower class rebelion!!! lol |

| forgot to say a couple of the kids on other teams were on arabs , did us proud ! I had to laugh an arab with the show jumping ear and head coloured fly gear , in freezing cold Accrinton , end of the earth and wind is wicked, not a fly in sight ! |

Oh Kirsty, you've just reminded me why I hated pony club I know the majority of the kids love it though and as for the "pony club kick" I told my daughter pretty much they same as you - very loudly -most of camp heard - oh you should have seen the looks I got from the pony club mums, I should at that point have been 6 feet under Glad your small one had a good time |

Fabulous description of your rally! Love it.
Ah yes, PC kicks are true!
At our debut PC ODE last weekend i could not get over teh number of badly fitted tweed jackets. Why? Why do parents insist of dressing theor children in disgusting and untidy outfits? Don't teh children look in the mirror? The black polyester jobbie also seems to have crept in to the PC wardrobe. It wasn't that many years ago that i was a PC rider myself and no way would we have been allowed anythign other than tweed. |

I left quite a few embarrassing occurences out....
don't know if you've heard but Harry Radnapp (yea... who?????) has left pompey and gone to tottenham (he's the portsmouth football club manager by the way) - well my grumpy OH is not very happy with harry's latest career decision (obviously...)
so we are stood amongst "daddies hunting shiny range rovers" when grumpy OH receives a call, he answers, its his mate.... at the top of his voice all of a sudden "I KNOW MATE - GUTTED - ABSOLUTELY GUTTED...." now I know where this rather loud conversation is going so I put on a little smile and between gritted teeth I direct my grumpy LOUD OH to the lorry to continue his "important current affairs call"
AND!!!! not to mention he decided to wear his works trousers - he's a painter & decorator.... now I'm far from being a snob, and i love him to bits, but why, WHY would you wear you work trousers that used to be blck combats but are now covered in various colours of gloss and matt paint to a pony club rally on a sunday (work free) morning!!!!
.....there was also a slight incident with sox running free after the lesson when lauren was taking his tack off... he made a quick dash for the long grass... I heard small child shout "uh oh" and then demented mother (me) quickly ran after starved (GREEDY!) pony with a head collar..... As I caught the little bugger (sox not small child) I heard one of the range rover brigades child say to posh parent "daddy, why is that pony allowed to graze there?" daddykins replied "the pony wasn't tied up properly...."
obviously I'm thinking 'strike me down now.......' |

So glad you had a wonderfull day ... you have brought back some memorys
Me sleeping in the landrover after finishing night shift and straight down to the rally is one  and as for escaping ponys, our 1st was only 10.2hh and on many occasions he was out the jockey door when the kids tryd to put him in the trailer.
I agree with you and the pony club kick daughter was taught from an early age "little is more"

The "escaping pony" made me laugh but also brought back memories! our DEAR little 12.1 took off at camp, another pony had "rear ended" him, daughter then very small fell off and pony took off across the fields they all thought he would stop at the hedge, but no! he CLEARED 4 ft barbed wire fence + 6 ft hedge and the ditch the other side they all expect to find him in a heap, but instead he was running up and down the other side of the ditch trying to get back!! (he's the cute little chestnut 2nd in on my sig. strip) |

I must have been lucky, I have only ever been involved with a few Pony Clubs and none have been posh ones (although I used to make rosettes for a very nice lady at the Beaufort) I grew up going to the Axe Vale, our DC rode a very beautiful arab mare.As my own bratlet decided to ride I somehow got talked into being PC Secretary of the tiniest litle welsh club. No poshness at our clubs, or headscarves, come to think of it.
Sounds as if the day didn't go too badly, and your post should actually be submitted to a magazine I think. Great account. |

TC - Pony Camp..... what do you mean "my" first pony camp....??? I don't have to go do I???? I really really thought I dump pony and small person at the place and pick them up 7 to 10 days later?????? Please tell me I don't have to go..... I would end up doing something VERY naughty to the very posh people and get us evicted....

| Unfortunately you are now a (gasp)PONYCLUB MUM.My mum worked full time and she was down at pony club camp every morning to do the breakfasts in her platform wellies and blue eye shadow....and she had to make my fancy dress costume for the last day mounted games...You try riding whilst wearing a big cardboard box covered in baco foil(The tin man from the wizard of Oz OBVIOUSLY)AAAAAH YES....order your headscarf now hehehe |
