Hello All,
How much is the Hay and straw around the country? in Berkshire well near me in Newbury is very expensive and straw is about £3.00 for a small bale.

EVERYTHING appears to be expensive in Newbury I've just had a horse 5 stage vetted in that area and could hardly believe my ears when I was told it costs a whopping £300 there!! When I queried why it was soooo expensive, the reply was, "it's the M4 corridor....everything is more expensive here!!"

£30 round bale hay
£6 small haylage
£15 round bale straw
i bought them today vets are very expensive, i may organise a lorry load of straw.

I was £8 for a round bale off straw. Also get to borrow a bogie, big bale disny fit in my single trailer!

My partner is crying lol!!! he cant belive some of the costs! we want cheap straw!! and hay!! maybe if it was cheaper we could beat the bills a bit x

| maybe people who are in the same area can get together and order a lorry load from the cheapest source, maybe food aswell buy direct, as most people will not use a enough or have storage space to buy direct but enough people in the same area may make it possibly workable. |

£16 for a round bale of hay and £3.50 for a small one.
Don't know about straw yet as mine live out but am going to bed my shelter with it this year so will let you all know when the time comes! |

| im in Dorset and hay is £3.50 a small bale including delivery(its good quality though) and there seems to be very little straw about,thats about £2.50 a small bale! shavings have gone up to £7.90 a bale! i have also paid out for 3 failed vettings in the last few months which has cost me £678!!!! no wonder my hubby is going grey! everything is expensive at the moment. |

I have been quoted £35 for a round bale of hay and £4 for a square bale, oh and thats including delivery!!!
It's shocking isn't it?! I have just bought from a local farmer some square bales and have collected myself for £3.25 a bale. I also have just bought some square bales of haylage for £6.50 delivered. |

We got the hay cut from our own fields for £1.00 a bale this year, 90p last year.
Having to pay £20.00 for round bale straw, have heard of small bale straw costing £3.50.

| Hi. Anyone in the york area? Struggling with hay this year and straw, eventually found straw at 85p a bale but it wont be the best, been quoted up to 2.50 a bale, straw much more of an issue, our normal supplies put it up last year to 2.75 due to fuel. Which was fair enough, but now wants £3.25 plus delivery, and fuel is going down. Could really do with finding some cheaper, if i had transport i would go to whitby and collect. It seems that they havent managed to get as much in so they are increasing our costs to cover the shortfall. Pants :( |

Here in Somerset I am paying £25 for a large bale of hay; £20 for the same size straw; and £27 for a round bale of haylage. There are also square bales of haylage available for £25 from another farmer. I also have to pay £20 to have the straw that I buy removed at a later date (dung heap stored on concrete in yard).
I believe the feed that I buy from Mole Valley has increased somewhat too - even though I use their own make - my feed bill has gone up by £100 per month since last winter. The farmers told me it was because of the price of diesel during the summer months that they had to put the cost onto the hay and straw and feed.

| I'm in west wales and have big square bales straw deliverd for £15, hay is £25 and haylage is £20 ...so far anyway, who knows what will happen to prices if we get this predicted very cold snowy winter |

Last time i bought straw it was i think £1 per bale might have gone up slightly. Hay is £2.80 nice hay tho.
