For my lovely old ginger girl. I received on of those horrible early morning calls from our YO saying that Honey had got cast in her stable, and as a result of thrashing around managed to get her leg trapped between the stable door & the wall. We think shes hit the door with some force, causing the bottom to bellow & her leg went through the gap, unfortunately the bolt didn't give way & her leg got trapped. Its a back door to a store area so no kick bolt. YO told me she was up & hopping around, but because of Honeys nature they just left her alone until I arrived. She worries dreadfully & hates a fuss especially from people shes not used to being handled by. All kinds of horrific injuries went through my mind as I drove down there. She greeted me with a whiffle & was happily stood munching her haylage, & let me look at the leg. A few minor grazes but a huge compression mark across her cannon bone, where the door had crushed her leg. A lovely new lady vet came out & cleaned her up, applied a pressure bandage & splint, and we agreed an x-ray to be sure there was no fractures. I have to say I've had the longest wait of my life whilst she went back to the surgery go get the kit, and then waiting for the phonecall for the verdict. At 6.30 tonight she called back to say Honey has the all clear, no fractures. Such a relief as she really is my baby, we've been together for 19 years now & I hate to think of what could have happened. Shes been an absolute superstar through all of this, everyone was amazed how she didn't panic & just lay there waiting for someone to rescue her. Shes a bit swollen & sore, convinced the cocktail of drugs she has to take is poison, and getting back to her grumpy old self! I'm going for a long soak to try & de-stress now

Poor little lady, huge hugs to her and you.
My new boy has skinned one of his cannons tonight and has gashes all up his leg after some horses escaped from their paddocks. They do keep us on our toes! |
