No sorry not going did the ride many years ago, we stabled the horses at lovely old property stables were huge, so big one of our horses got cast typical! And the people were sooooo lovely they didn't even charge us for the stables for the night. We stayed at a local B&B.
You don't get hospitality like that these days!!
The ride was wonderful that I can remember lots of moorland and forest, love to go again, bit far though have to watch the pennies.

Hi Evelyn,
I'm going but not riding, crewing for Candy Cameron. Its a great ride, loads of canter stretches and not as hilly as most up here. Say hello, I'm in a Shogun, F758 DAG and knowing Candy she'll be in the first few to cross the line. (if not the first) It will be nice to meet you. I'm tallish, skinny with dark - greying - hair. Just ask any of the committee and tell them I'm crewing for Candy and they'll know roughly what time we'll be in. See you there!

Great ride, but 54 gates in 50 miles...seemed a bit much!!!!
However I had a super time, my first ER and finished 7th out of 11 and finised with a 49 heart rate.

Well done Evelyn and GintI!!!! I didn't know there was that many gates, bl**dy heck. How long were you given for gates etc? I hav'nt done the ride since it changed venues and I won't be doing it until it changes again thats for sure.
As you probably know we (Candy) retired at the first vet gate. She had a crashing fall and I think she's broken her ribs. Will know more later when I speek to her. Think her boy has done a check ligament, thats them out of the Newmarket 100 miler (World Qualifier). She only came to do a steady ride to get him out before the qualifier. We must have looked a right pair, me with a broken elbow and bum bone, her with a broken arm and I'm pretty sure broken ribs now.lol Oh and I nearly ran off the road twice, trying to get to the next crew point before her. Funny isn't it, she's rode in France then Spain competativly, then came down to Alnwick for a steady ride out and this happenes, just a trip from trot speed.
Who else failed to finish, no, I'm not being nosey but interester to know if a certain horse finished. At 2 crew stops this horse and rider cantered away up the road on the concrete. It looked suspect at the vetting but didn't have time to wait and see if it passed. This type of behavior is not good for our image let alone the poor horse.
You'll have to come back down to Hexham, when we'll have more time to talk.

Candy's ribs are'nt broken, couple of tablets this morning and she rode for 2 hrs. The boy is only sore too, check ligament seems fine but won't make Newmarket. So pleased about the news, I knew Candy would mend but I was worried about the boy.

That is good news, I heard it was a sore tumble; I rode with Sue Rogers for a bit after the first vet gate.
The ride was a ER so we did not get any gate allowance however they did reduce the min speed to 9.(something) however I was doing this as a STF which meant I had to do it over 11.27.
I believe Danielle Coulson on Euphorias Quest won the ride (she also won the 80k at the Dukeries at 19.4kph a few weeks ago). Cheryl Wallace was second, a girl on a grey Arab third, les Spark 4th and Alia Khann & Pam Scogall 5th Equal, then me. I think Sue Rogers also finished but I am not sure about her final vetting as she was quite a bit slower.
Yes I also saw someone cantering on the road, the horse was completing wound up and I think was vetted out at the first vet gate lame.
The strangest thing for me on the whole day was the last section without a stick, which is an ER rule. I really missed my stick, I carry one all the time, and I think I never hit the horse with it, however it is a usefully fly swatting tool and good to help with gates at the last gate just before the end I was doing half on the horse and half hanging on to the gate, while two boy scouts at the previous gate watched me at full stretch shutting the gate, luckily Ginti stood like a statue.
More importantly nice cold legs this morning (horse and rider), Ginti was a little stiff but nothing like chasing Zolar & Islay round the field to tell them about her adventure to loosen off.

Great feeling when you and your horse are well the next morning, isn't it?
Sue Rogers passed final vetting, so came in at 8th. For those of you who do not know her, she is a Grandma with very silver hair. So anyone who thinks your too old for Endurance, just come watch Sue. She has had a very bad back but it seems to be sorted now. The ride is home ground for her and her horse, after the last vetting she had trouble convincing her boy that she didn't want to go home the quick way. It took her a good while to get him going so she asked the vet if he'd seen her canter in. He had and said there was plenty more in the tank. When your horse act's up like hers, you don't know if he just thinks he knows the way better than you or maybe he's tired. She has had problems with his drinking in the past but he drank well on the day, which she's over the moon about.
I don't carry a whip on a ride, never got used to it but I have thought about it for gates. Usually have brake problems, Dollar in his 2nd childhood.lol
When's your next ride down here?
