Some of you may recall my boy had a horrific accident in May involving a gate hinge bolt resulting in an 18" deep laceration through 2 layers of muscles from girth line nearly to point of hip.
Anyway, the wound healed well, with the exception of two areas near the top which got infected then reopened when he had his first joyful leaps of turnout after 8 weeks in his box. These two areas healed, but now he is left with very thick solid scar tissue, each area about 6cm long by 3cm wide and obviously quite thick too. Does anyone have any experience of similar scars or any ideas if there is anything I can do to reduce the lumps? A friend suggested rubbing Bio-oil into it. In the scheme of things they are not a big issue given he has a huge scar and a massive dent running alongside, but they are noticealby raised.
Thanks

Someone suggested rubbing in Comfrey Oil to me when one of mine had a scar. It's expensive but worth a try. I do believe that you must be absolutely sure that the wound is thoroughly healed before you use it or it sets up abscesses. It will probably shrink over time as well so maybe give it some time to see how much it decreases on it's own.

Also maybe Camrosa might work?

That was Equaide but is was for proudflesh. Not sure whether it would work on scar tissue. I'd be tempted to try Camrosa.

I second Bio Oil.
My filly had a fall last year and now has a scar on her knee and fetlock. The BIO OIL 'peeled' away the tops layers of the scar and as a result, both are alot smaller. I used it once, sometimes twice a day for about 2 months.
