We had to watch for these 'people' in the area I used to live and the YO who owned the yard where I used to keep Tara had grazing which was away from the house about a mile and a half down a dead end country lane, she had to keep all the paddocks padlocked all the time to stop them from moving in. Luckily the fields were mostly on quite steep slopes so not really suitable for caravans!!! |

I'm fighting the urge, really I am. I can't start or I won't stop. We have a permanent site about half a mile from our factory unit. Now where did I put that isotope.......... I have a dream.......
This lot are not genuine gypsies, they are the bling adorned, top of the range 4WD, thieving scum. They acquire horses and trot the legs off them around the local roads behind a sulky. They think or assume that as they are "gypsies", they are knowledgeable horse people. My arse. I have reported them to the RSPCA several times. I can't continue with this, our accountant is coming in this morning and I'm liable to bite his arm off if I don't stop now. I think you get the picture. |

Right now please dont bite my head off - I feel like everyone else about the Traveller element of this fraternity - thieving B'stds is mild by anyones standards - however here are two experiences that I have had with Gyppo's - Firstly 10 or so years ago when I lived just outside Wigan we had a permanent Gypsy camp literally on the doorstep about 1/2 a mile away from my home - now this wasn't a turn up in your 4x4 and pitch your caravan site this was a permanent council approved settlement - they had their own rules and they stuck to them - touch wood we had no trouble all the time I lived there - but better than that happened to me not so long ago - I had been shopping in Morrisons and was queing by the fag kiosk to get my fix - anyway whislt standing there about 10 kids came charging in and swarmed everywhere - all hel broke lose security guards running their lardy asses off management supervisors everywhere! Why? They were gyppo kids - anyway these kids only went as far as the ciggie kiosk and they just stood ther grabbing sweets etc - what was I doing standing there muttering obscenities about gyppos. When all of a sudden - this young girl standing infront of me - (bearing in mind they were all infront not behind as there was a wall of staff waiting for them) turned to me in a broad Irish accent and said " 'scuse me Mr your next!" I was so shocked I couldnt believe what I was hearing - here was a child - classed as spawn of the earth - and not only was she very polite but she was keeping the rest of the rabble in check as well. How many times can you say you have seen kids behave this way - it restored my faith in humanity and the travelling community - but at the same time I know exactly what these people are capable of as I had some after one of my horses not so long ago. Reason for this post there are two sides to every story - yes the majority are bad but please dont shoot me as there are some good ones out there.

There was a camp of Gypsies moved in to a field local to me a few years ago - a day later - they had gone, which suprised me a little because they certainly looked like they were making themselves at home when i saw them.
I asked around and found out the way to make a camp of gypsies move PDQ (deboniks also mentioned this). The farmer drove into said field in his tractor, with a muckspreader on the back, full to overflowing point of his cattle herds finest, and stated that due to his rolling program of works - this field would be sprayed with muck at 9am in the morning, whether the caravans etc where there or not, and then proceeded to spread on the field next door - making sure that the wind was blowing in their direction - seemed to work!! |

moral to nick's story, don't tar everyone with the same brush!
when i had my saddles, baths(horse water), and roofing sheets nicked, the police said it's prob the gypsies! I stayed round the field last night as they were about-knowing my luck they'd take the roofing sheets off my stables, regardless if my neds are in!
What a great idea with muck spreading! |
