Cant believe it gypsies have moved in the field just up from our home
I feel physicly sick..
Last week farmer just finished cutting hay usually he would again at a later date NOT NOW..
There racing around it on motorbikes..
Its weird Saturday lunch time i saw a nice looking small caravan and car thought it weird but then no more of it..
Yesterday teatime there was loads of ploice and looked like a fight going on .... however again thought as its a back lane thats really bendy and lots of black spots which is a short cut leading onto other villages there had been a collision and a dispute maybe between two drivers..
Obvously not maybe more the poor field owner and gypsies!!
Now more have moved in.. and theyre as said before racing around the perimiter on motorbikes whilst all their cars and caravans are more in the middle of field!!
Have just found all keys for windows and never locked our backdoor rarely the front!!! but from now on they will all be locked and keys distrubuted to all the family..
Also i am going to get husband to go out and buy lock for our side entrance..
Am i being over the top ? i just think Hmmm .
I only have a average home, but the area we live in has a lot of very expensive very nice homes !!!
Have they been doing their homework !!as this land is really out the way for strangers out of the area to know about ?
Or am i letting my imagination begin to run away with me now..
I am just so gob smacked this has happened..
Sorry if am going on and sound over the top.. but not here ?..

Sarah, I think that I've been told by someone in a similar position (farmer, gypsies on his land), that they can stay 7 days then they have to move on or they can be thrown off.

A week is a long time to be worried, but it is finite.

Keep everything locked and out of sight, even during the day. Hugs.

What exactly gives them the right to take over someones land and intimidate everyone in the vicinity??? Sorry, but I think I would have to polish my (licenced) shotgun and do some target practice!!! No prizes for guessing who will get arrested!!!

We have a permanent site about 3 miles away, they seem to have got rid of the worst of them, trouble is there are a load more of them on several acres of development land, they appear on a regular basis The council have put concrete barriers across the access road and they just move them they stay until they are kicked off and leave one hell of a mess behind, which WE, as council tax payers, have to cover the cost of clearing. I know damned well it was one of them that nicked my garden tractor a few years back AND I caught another one trying to break into my barn a couple of weeks later. We never leave the house without all windows and doors being locked, the alarm set and the dogs in a position where they can be seen from the outside, very few people would like to argue with a Rottie, even if he is more likely to lick them to death they don't know that!!

oh god... i feel awful for you! two years ago we had them at our garden gate (literally) for three months... it was the worst three months of my life... police refused to do anything "human rights", council were rubbish.... we reported so many of their crimes but it all went unheard... I can't go on about this because I am getting wound up!

Lock EVERYTHING away, close curtains, make a not of EVERYTHING you see - yes, keep a diary if you have to... continue to phone/email/visit council - everyday if you have to... I did! Then start to plan how to stop them getting there next time... we live in fear that they will return... we all check the gate is locked daily... last time they got in when the council came into cut the grass and "accidently" left it unlocked...

I feel for you so much... I know the hell they cause first hand....

I've worked on the local newspaper for many years; in the old days the police used to ask us to put a warning out for people to be sure to lock their sheds and outhouses because the gypsies were back and they were expected to be systematically raiding everyone's garden machinery and stuff. Now the police daren't do anything at all, let alone warn people, because the gypsies are a minority and it's racist.

I once did a publicity job for a village that went into rage-overdrive because the county council was trying to satisfy legislation to provide 'transit camps' for gypsies and travellers and chose a small field near the village. You should have heard how the 'gypsy officer' was shouted down in the public meeting! (They didn't get the consent they wanted...).

However, not a single person I know doesn't recoil at the thought that they might draw up somewhere as there is just no protecting property they want to take.

I would lock everything up too, better safe than sorry. I hope they move on soon. I am horrified that they can just pitch up on a hay field, wreck it and be moved on after 7 days. I am officially astonished that the police cant tell tham to "foxtrot oscar" immediately.

Astonished!

They are NOT gypsies. I had a friend many years ago whose family were GENUINE born and bred gypsies, but had left the life to settle in a house in town.

The scum masquerading under this banner are the dross and drop outs of society who are hiding under the protection of racial minority.

For my sins I once started a course in 'ethnic studies' and we had the local official plea their ethnic identity, such a farce, as the video of the local permanent camp site had not true travelling people on it, under questioning about their beliefs and cultural values they fell apart at the seams.

We also get them in our area, I actually feel sorry for the police as they are powerless to do what every local community would want them to do from these fraudsters.

In the immediate post war era, people with no visible means of support could be locked up, oh for a return to those 'draconian' values and laws.

Sarah ,
we had Gypsies turn up at Churston just outside Brixham about 10 days ago .(This happens every summer ) There were 30 caravans /motor homes in a field belonging to South West Water , the police gave them a deadline to get out ,some of them are on Churston Common & the rest have gone elsewhere !
We drove past them on Sunday & i couldn`t believe it as they have Motorhomes worth about £20.000 or really new 4WD`s or people carriers to tow their caravans & not forgetting Lorries for their tarmacing business !

They are not true Gypsies.... They are people who know how to play the system.......... Pay cash for everything, including their new 4wd... and splendid mobile homes....... Police are defenseless against them........ They are mighty in their group............

I wish I had their money, but not their morals.

Paul

And where do they get their money from?? OOoooohhhh, by thieving from hard-working people and selling their ill-gotten gains onto others - for cash to exchange for their lovely vehicles and luxury caravans.

I am sure you wouldn't want 'their' money Paul, you are too nice-a-person!!!
