Small Child wants to take pony to the local show in a couple of weeks....
There are loads she could enter... she also wants me to take raz...
I'm really pleased that she wants to go.... BUT... I have no idea what to do!!!!
I don't know the first thing about shows...! The thought of it is really making me nervous!
I need some help!!! I really don't have a clue what to do!
Its on 13th July
He's a welsh C... 12.3... 11years old... liver chestnut... small person is 9yrs, very confident rider, jumping small fences... I suppose the classes open to her are...
Natives Childrens Pony (25%rider, 50% pony behaviour) 25% conformation (I'm assuming thats pony not child! ) Novice Showing Novice 2'
I spoke to her instructor about it yesterday... I was hoping she'd say she'd come and help us and show us what to do... but she's entering her own horse
So, we are COMPLETELY on our own! I don't even know what she has to wear let alone what she would have to do!
I suppose Raz could go in...
Novice Showing Veterans Finebreds
...but I would rather get small person sorted and get it right with her first!
SO HELP PLEASE!!!!!

I'd just take the small child and pony, leave Raz at home. Showing small children and ponies is daunting enough without subjecting yourself to having to enter the ring as well - just my advice, not sure it helps much!!! Remember that small children will get bored, wander off, leaving you to deal with both neds whilst hysterically searching for child when her class is due!!!
Good luck and have fun!!! and let us know how you get on with loads of pics (especially of Mum tearing her hair out!!!!!)

Hi Kirsty,
Has she got an outfit sorted? With natives plain browband and neat numnah in brown or black depending on tack. Tweed jacket and lemon/cream jods and neat boots, gloves and hat.
I love showing and regularly used to take the children that we taught to shows with my mum. I had about 5 jackets and a selection of jods and hats but sadly they have all disappeared!
For her classes she will need to walk, trot and possibly canter depending on age/experience of class. She will need to do a figure of eight in trot and canter for her individual show. Best to stick to something simple that she will remember.
I agree with Carla just take her pony the last thing you want is your hands full and for them to be shouting to each other when they are in a class.
Sounds fun, wish we could come! I can't wait to get my little girl to her first show, she already has navy jacket and lemon jods and the most gorgeous leather boots Plus a cheeky little pony too!
Hope ive not just told you everything you already know! Most of all enjoy yourselves!!

Have they got a clear round jumping class running? Normally smaller jumps and get bigger through the course of the day, but may be a nice intro to the show. |

Clear round is always a good starter, and smaller/local shows always allow 'outside help' (eg. loving mums!!) to encourage the ponies/little ones. You will have great fun!!!!
Might be a good idea to see if you can borrow an 'outfit' for your small one. As long as she is safe with the correct standard of footwear/headgear/body protector, etc. and she looks smart(ish) (how long can you keep a small one looking smart????) no doubt you will all have a wonderful day.
Looking forward to seeing pics of your fun day!!!

Ooooh Kirsty, you are a brave (mad) woman. Sorry but can't offer any advice as haven't done this sort of thing other than don't go !! But that would spoil small person's fun. Think I'd be inclined to concentrate on small person and leave Raz behind.
Wishing you luck and a fun day - oh and make sure you take photos for us to look at please !! |

I have a feeling this is going to be an expesnive exercise! She'll need new jos and boots, also a new hat, hers is fine but not very smart... and a tweed jacket! don't know anyone to borrow from so shopping it will be! Raz will have to stay at home then - he will go bonkers and probaly sweat up lovely but maybe next time....

Oooh! I have so many memories of daughter at local shows just take small person & pony this time remember it it supposed to be fun. Clear round jumping is a must, really helps with the confidenceno need to go overboard with hat & jacket etc for local level either, so long as it looks smart Make the most of it, by the time Eleanore was 11 it was impossible for me to watch her sometimes, especially cross country, she used to do the opens, which meant the same course as the big horses, and at times I couldn't see the pony over the fences I used to hide in the lorry |

So I think we are all set....
Child has:- new navy hat silk new navy showing jacket (she hated the tweed - thankfully PC go for navy) new beige jods (she wouldn't even look at the canary/lemon!) new brown gloves new brown job boots she is also so proud that she can wear he pc tie
Poor little pony is going to be scrubed clean on saturday and left in overnight. Small person wants to plait his mane and tail - as she's going for childrens pony and not M&M/native I'm assuming this is ok?? We have some chalky stuff for his white bits, shiny stuff for his body....
So please wish her luck - if there's anything else she needs please tell me!

Mmm, sounds familiar - men and mechanical bits
Enjoy the day and let small child plait up and primp - all part of the fun
My little rider insisted on plaiting my Sec B's tail and putting a running plait in her mane last week for a local show - just hope none of the County crew were watching She did look cute though.
Don't forget - lots of pics required. |

Oh you'll have a great time it's far more fun taking children and ponies than doing it yourself! I used to have to borrow children for my ponies and I loved taking them out and about. Good luck i'm sure it will be the first of many! |
