The one thing that troubles me is if Dr Houtappel is down as the breeder, then he bred her in 1947, but she was registered in the UK. somehow she was here in 1957, yet he didnt move his stud to the UK till the 70's !if he sold her to Mr pickles, we need a date of that sale to confirm it is her ) she wasn't bred from until 1962 when she would have been 15? then went on to have 7 babies ! I wish I could remember the peoples name that owned her, but as I said she was just a privately owned mare and not a brood mare when I knew her. oh my brain hurts |

In the 1983 stud book Synphony and Solarius is listed at the Merry Mead Stud, Churchill, Avon - Mrs Rapps and Miss Cooling. Synphony is listed as on loan from Mr & Mrs Glass.
Dr Houtappel lived at Lodge Hill Farm, Wadhurst.
Not sure this is much help but Mr Glass keeps popping up!
Edited to say AHS Stud directory not stud book! |

Thanks for that anyway, I am going to see if I can find out if a Mr Pickles lived in Mead way Old Coulsdon in 1957, that would indicate that she belonged to him, as her owners lived in Mead Way anyone know how to find that info? |

Wouldn't the Arab Horse Society have that info? |

Sorry I can't help you much Lynda. My friends came yesterday and did know Mr. Houtappel. The only bay mare they remember being associated with him was 'Cora', and she was around and being shown in the 70's. She was by Achim (sp) and I have checked on allbreeds, she's not a decendant to Karit.
They did suggest that you get in touch with Ms. Cook who now resides in Norfolk, as she did go out to the USA with Dr. Houtappel and knew many of his horses personally.
Again, sorry we couldn't help more.
Carla, xx.

Thanks anyway, I did get in touch with a local website for Old Coulsdon, and found some more old acquaintences ! so all is not lost I left a message on the site to ask if anyone knew a Mr and mrs Pickles who lived in mead way at around that time, so maybe I will get some joy from that, as for the AHS they only have the same access to records we all have. I have all the volumes going back to that time, but havent had a moment to find them they are up in the loft somewhere ! but I want to say I am very touched that people have been so helpful, thank you all |

Another note, I went through every bay mare born/reg in the UK between 1940 and 1955. None had a name remotely sounding like 'crete' or 'karit' apart from Karit herself I mean |

Bit of a long shot I know but you could try and get the electoral roll for that place and that year maybe on the net or a library. Would that jog your memory. |

We think this MUST have been her, by a series of illiminations (sp)? but we came across a brick wall as far as finding out when Dr Houtapal first sold her to the UK. thanks to all who helped especially Mandy who found her name. I think can safely say we have found her decendents alive today. one of them on the for sale pages here ! I would have loved to buy her if only for sentimental reasons, but MUST be sensible, however if someone wants to see her, she is called "Cover girl WKD" |
