Hello Everyone,
He can ride but I've never been good when it comes to size and breed that men can ride. He is 6ft and currently 15stone but he's looking to go back to being 14stone he loves the thought of riding an Arab but I'm not sure if his weight and height will allow him to, would love to here others opinions and suggestions

Back in the 70's I knew a man of 16 stone who rode a 14 hand arab stallion, and I can honestly say they looked a picture together Just remember these horses are tough little cookies, and carried MEN into battle, and went all day without nourishment to do it, there is no other breed that can boast this weight for weight size for size You tell your man he should be honoured to be carried on the back of something so magestic ( as we all should) trouble is not everyone knows just how royal these arabs are |

My other half used to ride a 14.1 part bred mare, who was very dainty needless to say OH isn't , built on the lines of a brick outhouse(being polite here) she never worried at all and he didn't look daft either.

Did you ever see the photos I posted of Big Ed ? he is 6ft 8!!! and 14stone. He rides our Arabs beautifully. he is a very very capable dressage rider and so probably rides more lightly and balanced than anyone else. How much work does OH want to do , distance ? there are some Arabs who sipmly would not have the bone but plenty who are bulit for the job. happy horse hunting.......keep us informed |

I am 5.9 now 14.4 stone I have lost tho in order to ride my daughters mare 2 1/2 stone after putting weight on from accident and being on crutches and medication for 2 years+.. Still hoping to get back to 13 stone. Her mare is big boned just under the 14.3 mark!!! very deep!!!!! My old boy was pts so i did not have a ride I was very apprehensive about riding her mare as some said quite blatently i should not.. others said she is more than capable of carrying me and i was being ridiculas not doing so!! So i decided i would just see/try how she was with me and to be honest its not been a problem actually wonderfull she floats unlike my cob did!! she could carry me no problem and was as forward as she is with my daughter at 5.9 but only 8 1/2 stone.. The first few times i only went about a mile as not ridden myself for over 2 years+ and still ill and not quite right.. We went up hill in a trot me slowing her down as daughter takes her on that route to the gallops!!! back at yard it was a hot day and she had no hint (sweat) that a saddle had even been on her back Quite unbelievable i thought!! I would not ever contemplate damadging ours in any shape or form as they mean the world to us.

I might just add that the desert bred horses were much smaller than the horses today, 13 hands being the norm, you would have looked at them and said no way, these horses wont carry me forget the size enjoy the horse for what it does best |

Couldn't possibly say Pam, well I could, but then I'd have to kill you. He is a mighty fine specimen and has the most wonderful hands. |
