Okay well, tonight I reported someone to the ILPH.
I am worried now as I keep my horses near them, worried about them knowing it was me. Their pony lives on it's own and has Laminitis and since the daughter works away now it is left to the father to sort out the pony, I think he only goes down once a day. The pony isn't on livery or anything they have their own field like I do. I have watched this pony for a few months now and dithered over whether to report them or not, I never see them so can't give them advice and don't really want to get involved too much as I have my own 3 horses to look after and don't need a fourth!! I am told they don't see the pony too often by a man who walks his dog down the lane every day.
Tonight the little pony has been lying in the gateway for ages and she hobbled to see me this morning when I called to her, her feet are long and a mess and have so many rings around them too. Her neck is very very cresty.
I know I have done the right thing for the pony but I hope I haven't brought trouble on myself! Gulp!

You did the right thing .... It the pony's interest you have at heart and maybe its just advise the man needs in caring for a laminitic and the trimming of the feet and the ILPH are sure to help.... either way you would have beaten yourself up so don't worry .... you care and thats a gift ........

You have done the right thing, the ILPH will not tell the owner who reported them, so try not to worry, just act normal, at least now this poor pony will get the attention she so obviously needs. Well done for doing the right thing. Leighx

You have done the right thing...the pony is suffering needlessly,i doubt the man will know it was you, could of been the man who walks his dog down the road who reported the pony.
How would you feel if you came one morning to find the pony dead...a lot worse than you feel now i would bet.....you have nothing to feel bad about.

Well done you, many people for the reasons you have
said would not of done so but i think it would of
played on you mind if something terrible happened to
the poor pony and you could of done something about
it Just be careful who you tell in your area
about reporting it, as others have said the ILPH should
not say who reported it.

Well done again for doing the right thing

You mustn't feel bad about reporting these people. The pony must come first. You've done the right thing.

Yes the right thing for the pony I know, I just hope no harm come to my boys because of any of this!
will try to act normal as you say if I see them there. Poor little mare has no company and is very lonely she's so sweet she's only about 10hh, very cute! Her neck is huge though so cresty you wouldn't believe it, I have noticed her feet for a while now, she needs the farrier desperately.
I left her lying down in the gateway tonight, I wanted to put her in their stable but they have no bedding and no hay though could have given her a little of mine. I felt awful, anyway it's done now.
I just really really hope my boys will be okay, I would hate to think that maybe some harm may come to them over this as you never know do you? I can't take them anywhere else either as that would look suspisious(sp) and we have nowhere else for them, ahhh well.

well done you for doing what other people have turned a blind eye to!!

try not to worry, this chap may not have a clue how to look after his daughters pony (and not just blatant neglet??) and may really appreciate the help... the IPLH won't give any details so he will not know how it was reported...

This mare is obviously in dire need of outside help - and you have done whats right for her!

please keep us updated!!

Well done you. Many years ago I reported a horse to the RSPCA when everyone else said "don't get involved" and action was taken. I was also told of a little arab who was neglected and really thin and one winter night in freezing rain it froze to death; I was told after it froze otherwise I would have done something. The person who told me used to pass it on the way to her horse; I never liked her after that. I don't know how she could have just passed the poor little soul twice a day and done nothing. Even if she didn't want to report it she could have given it hay. It had no rug and all it's bones were clearly visible. Sometimes we have to do the right thing even if we are worried about the consequences.

The ILPH will not tell the owner that the horse has been reported if it is clearly visible from the road.

Again, well done.

Barbara

Most definitely you have done the right thing years ago I had to report someone who worked for me she had tried to sell on a horse that was in such bad condition, incredibly thin due to problems with it's teeth I had last seen her horses a couple of years earlier and all was fine, but she had been through a bad patch in her personal life. I felt really awful, but at the end of the day the horse came 1st, she never found out it was me and it made her get things sorted out. A couple of months later I saw the horse in much better condition Sometimes it takes a sharp reminder for people to do the right thing.
Hope everything turns out well for this poor pony - well done you

Definitely think that you have done the right thing Danielle, well done for taking action when many others might not have had the courage to do so. Poor little soul, it made me really sad reading your post about her. Hopefully the owners are just ignorant rather than neglectful and a word from the ILHP will do the trick, I'm sure they deal with sensitive situations like this every day of the week.

Really hope you can stop worrying too much about your own horses although it is understandable that you feel the way you do. Do keep us posted on the outcome of their visit won't you.

You have done the right thing....sounds like this guy has no idea, and maybe just needs a prod in the right direction, either way the ILPH will sort things out....they were brilliant when I reported a RS for using a 32 yr old pony who had Cushings, and he had no management programme..nothing. They removed him from the RS, and it was put on special 3 monthly inspections by the local council.

Good on you hun, for caring when others see and won't do anything about it!

WELL DONE YOU, I take my hat off to you. Dont worry to much about any backlash from this, the ILPH wont tell who reported it. As has already been said, just act numb and pat yourself on the back for probably saving a ponies life. Well done again.
