I had an interesting conversation with someone yesterday who told me that Spag Bol is a British invention, much the same as Chicken Tikka Masala.
Apparently any self respecting Italian would not eat a tomato sauce with long spaghetti. Long spaghetti should be eaten with cream based sauces and tomato sauces should be eaten with short pasta.
Now I'm not entirely sure that this person wasn't pulling my leg - they were, however very insistent!
What say you?

Vera sorry to hijack your thread but I love Italy, their clothes, the country, the food, all to die for. Italian men seem to come in two versions - mega-gorgeous or mega-gross
Janet, italians are defo off the menu on Feb 19 though |

I must not be a self respecting italian then I love my spag bowl with any shape, size or length of spagetti. Although coming to think of it, i think my dad does only make it with short shapes....we are authentic enough to have lasange for Xmas dinner though |

I now have it on good authority that spag bol is British.
Reason - a meat sauce simply is no good with spaghetti as it wouldn't cling to the pasta as you twirled it around a fork and you'd have to shovel it in separately.
Common sense really. |

Oh!! Now I am totally disillusioned!!! I had spag bol in Italy when I was 7 (1967), it came with long pasta and the lovely waiters taught me how to eat it with a spoon and fork???? It was nearly as good as the mistamare (sp. obviously)!!!
