Hi Nut, You are soooo lucky. I have been fortunate to have been to New York about 5 times and I love it. I go with Sal (who has Vody) and we have an absolute hoot!! Have you got your hotel booked? We have stayed in a lot of nice hotels, the best one being the Soho Suites down on the East Side - although it is a suite and self-catering (Its like having yor own apartment in New York!!!). If you want more central then I would recommend the Time Hotel (off Times Square).
Sightseeing - well - there is so much to see. Up the Empire State Building, Grand Central Station, United Nations Buildings, helicopter ride, Statue of Liberty, dinner in Battery Park, sightseeing on the buses. You won't be short of things to see and do.
Shopping - Oh my word, Macys, Bloomingdales, Broadway, 5th Ave, Old Navy, absolutely anywhere!! Depends on what you are looking for.
Eating - There are so many deli's with fantastic food (eat in or takeway). You can't go wrong for food - Hard Rock Cafe is fantastic. There are so many eateries, try them all!!
Drinking - to be honest we found a cracking bar near the Soho Suites which was ace, but it all depends on where you stay, coz that place is way out of town, but was soooo chilled out.
It's a brilliant adventure you will have a fantastic time - We love it and will be going in November for my daughters 22nd birthday - Can't wait.
Take a good pair of walking shoes with you, you will need them.
Enjoy
Oops had to edit out all the mistakes the vodkas were rather large ones. |

Hi D, thanks for the tips, having been browsing the internet on stuff to do, we want to make sure we fit it all in! I think the giant ice rink in central park (holds 2,000 skaters) should still be up so it will feel quite xmassy i guess... i think it will be there when you go in november too if you havent already done that |

Hi Nut - have a great time, like D said gotta be the best place on earth LOL
Just to add a couple of things I'd recommend :-
Eating - cheap and cheerful , like D said a deli on every corner - great value, and pizza places that make fresh slices with salad as you're there. Fabulous place opposite FAO Schwarz on 58th street.
Medium - Hard Rock - Times Square, Rosie o Grady's - 49th St between Broadway and 6th. Anywhere in Little Italy Freemans in Freemans Alley of Rivington Street , Lower East Side.
Expensive ish - Smith and Wollensky on third Avenue @ 49th, Rainbow Room - Rockefeller Centre
The ice rink outside the Rockefeller Centre will also still be up in Feb ..
Shop anywhere - the pound is so fantastic against the dollar , that with things generally cheaper anyway it's like being in the sales permanently LOL
Enjoy, you lucky woman |

Great place for a long weekend, so much to see and do. If you enjoy a spot of retail therapy, head for Bloomingdales, you could easily spend a whole day in there and not realise it !! Great value at the moment as well with the £/$ rate. Check out the forecast before you go, when it's cold there, it's seriously cold. Enjoy ! |

Forgot to say - you have got to do the "deli" thing and ask for a pastrami on rye - my OH did when we were there, just for the hell of it !! When he got it, it was the size of a small bungalow - didn' complain of course. Can't remember what I had but it was equally as big- they do like a large "portion" over there (ooooo matron....) |

Holidays are all about large portions merlot Thanks for all the tips, for the rest of you going, someone has tipped me off that if you go to the 1st floor visitor center of Macys, take your passport and they give you an 11% discount card to shop with...every little helps!
