hi, thought you would like to know that the arab gelding thst was sold at llanybydder on september ( arastin x sasza) ended up at a dealers yard near cardiff not far from where i keep my horses. this dealer is one up from the meat man! the gelding was skin and bone and had a big cut over one eye where he had been beaten with the handle of a twitch because he was difficult to bridle! i bought him for £900 and he is an absolute darling! he is only 3 and is backed and riding beautifully and loves people bless him. thought you'd be pleased that this story had a happy ending eventually.

Ah bless him. So nice to hear he had a happy ending. Would that dealer be Clive Howells by any chance?? If so I am not at all suprised the poor mite has had a tough time.
It warms my heart to hear that your new boy has found himself the lovely new home he deserves. Whats his name? Do you have any pics you can post?
And welcome to AL by the way!

aah thanks for all your lovely comments guys. his name is arristakrat, arri for short. i will post some pics as soon as i work out how lol. the dealer was barton williams. i'm so glad we got him, i haven't had arabs for a few years since i had to sell my beloved svengali so arri has filled a huge arab shaped hole and will definately have a home for life. hopefully when he's all better and a bit older we'll veb do some showing with him. |

Well done for buying him, I'm sure you'll have a lot of fun. Amazing how a horse of his breeding can end up in a place like that! Welcome to AL. X |

That is brilliant news. I was at Llanybydder last Thursday, I take my trade stand there, I was told there was no Arabs there this month, but all the mountain ponies and foals were there. They`d just been brought down off the mountains, absolutely petrified and then man-handled and taken to Llanybydder where the meat men in their white coats are waiting. Tim has to keep me away from the auction or I would just want to rescue them all. I already have quite a few here already and don`t have the space for anymore. This is what people do in this area and don`t think there is anything wrong with it, it`s just the same as bringing the sheep off the hills etc etc.
Some of the horses do get rescued, but there`s only so many us as individuals can save. |

I read that there were 50 (?) foals for one vendor!! I should imagine the meat men had a good day It was Rhayder last weekend - I didn't go - but its usually all the youngstock off the hills...... |

Thankfully Judith the large consignment of foals you mentioned would have fitted in a bread roll whole -
They were mini's and shetlands and or spotteds so hihly unlikely the MM even looked twice at any of them as the shetties are simply not worth his while and the spotteds make far too much money.
ps - heres Arri (hope its ok to post this) x

Phew! I did notice there did seem to be a lot of minis in the catalogue. Also several Haffy's (from one vendor)- there often are at the sale I seem to think from looking at the catalogues..........is there a breeder of them in SW Wales area?
Ah - what a nice looking fellow! |

hi all, thanks for posting the pic havenbeach, i will post some new ones when i can. I will keep you all posted with what he's up to and hopefully he'll be out on the show scene next year. It has worked out fab for us as my youngest daughter has just out grown her arab x welsh pony , we're keeping him cos i can't bear to part with him and my friends daughter is riding him, so arri can step into his place as naomi's riding horse, although I will borrow him too! |

Well done to you for rescuing this darling little lad and a huge welcome here too.
How can it be that he was subjected to such cruelty - yet you find him such a darling??? It never ceases to amaze me how some people just cant seem to understand this lovely breed and the joy and delighted they bring. Sandie
