Thanks for your kind words Pixie, and for the link.. I'll read it tomorrow!
My oldie was also a bit skinny his last years, but I found a special feed for him and he lived to be over 31,5 year! He had his last foal by side when he died.. a 9 days old filly! Old horses & ponys need extra protein.. much more than 'normal' horses do. I gave him musli (sp?) 'Sixteen Plus' from D & H.. and also some oil every day.
He has a grandson (not mine) who is born 1979, who looks like a teenager.. healthy and still going strong with the mares!
I hope you will have some more years with your boy! Best wishes

Thank you once again Bia. I have tried to load a photo - but to no avail - i am quite useless at this sort of thing. lol and hey ho. We gave him a bit of a clip yesterday. He looks very smart for an oldie. The thing is he is quite fit and still wants to do stuff. So i keep him going and have a sympathetic instructor and we have a bit of fun in our own way. I had the vet last Wednesday to give him a once over for the winter and he said that he is doing ok for his age and to keep him going. So thats what i intend to do. I will put a photo up when i manage to work out how. |

Hi Bia,
I've been following this thread with great interest. I have a teenage mare of Crabbet/Old English bloodlines. Not sure how to do the percentage, but wondered if you were not too busy could you help me work it out.
She is Celestial Silver http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/celestial+silver
A feisty lady who likes her own way!! I would post photos of her, but I am at my wits end...obviously missing something as it just does not happen!
Cheers..Cate |

Oh Cate, such a nice pedigree!! She's 96,72% Crabbet (96,716305 precise) and 100% Old English.
Are you breeding on her now? I saw that she had a colt (IMAJICA by Roxtar) 1996 (no offsprings), and one gelding 2003.
You can e-mail me photos of her.. and I'll put them up for you! bi-a@bredband.net

Hi Bia,
Thank you so much for doing that for me. She lost this years foal....he had to be cut out of her due to getting his off hind caught. She got all out except his hind quarters. He was dead when I noticed just his nose out and vet thinks he ruptured his cord.
Anyhow, she was put on loan twice, second time by me, and rejected her foals due to human intervention i.e. down and in shock for 3 hours with first foal and foal taken away then re-introduced; Second foal breeder induced her as she was two weeks overdue, but not ready as no bag! Vet didnt want to induce but stud insisted. She rejected. Only recently found this out from someone who knows the vet.
BUT...her colt foal she lost with me this year I let her nuzzle and sniff him,and she wickered to him and nuzzled him again. She fretted terribly for her foal, and has been getting very stressed when in season due to trying to get to the stallion, so not sure if I should try again.
I have just gelded my stallion who would run with her, but have another boy, so hopefully, she will like him.
I shall email you some photos of her, and again thank you.

Bia...Thank you! Glad you like her. I must say she is my best mare. Croup high, but a wonderful front end and movement. Temperament...feisty, and hate being handled, or ridden by strangers, so very much a mare that just likes the family.
Hopefully, she will like my new stallion as much as she did my chap I've just gelded. I thought she was going to go through the fencing to get to him a few weeks ago when she was in season.
Cheers...Cate |

Hi Monique...Yep..she's the one. Unfortunately, when my husband was very ill and died I binned everything I had including pics of her in the Scottish Connection Mag! Silly I know but thats how I felt at the time.
Anyhow, I do have her on video as a young filly with her two full sisters, dam and granddam. Unfortunately, the video is not too good now and her breeder was going to send me another, but they are in their 70's and it just hasnt happened.
I will send you some photos of her for your private file no problem. I dont have your email, but mine is champ@buchanan26.freeserve.co.uk email me and I email back.
The foal she lost this year was by my black AH Walkyria Bhaltos (R Ali Bey x Walkyria El Jamaal) smashing boy with wonderful temperament, but absolutely stressed at covering time, although I always ran him with my own mares, but I felt he was rather highly strung, so decided to geld him.
The foal she produced to him was gorgeous. Everything I wanted as another breeder who was there said. A lovely head, and neck set, no pink skin, just two hind socks and a tiny snip between the nostrils, and the most beautiful small tippy ears! Didnt have the stomach to put his two halves together to see what he was like whole.
The new stallion is straight Egyptian ..Ahanu (Emiratus B x Jiwan).
Cheers ...Cate |

Hi Bia...Thank you for putting the pictures of Kaya on. Not sure what you want to know, but here goes.
I've had Celestial Silver (Kaya) since she was 11 years old, if I'm correct she will be 19 next year. Apart from going on loan to have a foal she has always been with me. If she comes into season again and goes nuts for the stallion then I might consider covering her as I would love to have a foal from her to keep.
First one was taken this summer, the brightest she has looked since she lost her foal! The dark grey mare in the background is Gwinivine (LM Luval x Garmon, and we, or I think she is in foal, but not to my stallion. She is acting very strange and although fat acts as though she is starving. She has had a total character change, so any suggestions very welcome.
Second photo was taken a few years ago after we had bathed her and decided to have some fun with her.
Third photo again a few years ago taken with my youngest daughter Rebecca riding her. She was on her toes that day, very forward going. She can do a wonderful Piaff!! She is a lovely ride, but not for the faint hearted when the notion takes her.
I've emailed you a couple of her head which shows off her lovely eye and expression....well I think so.

Hi Cate, It's nice to hear the story 'behind' a horse, thanks for sharing! About Gwin.. maybe being pregnant, the only advice I can give you is to have her checked by a Vet.
Here comes some more pic's of the beautiful Celestial Silver 'Kaya'!

Hi Bia,
Thank you for putting pics of Kaya up. I'll have to master this photo thing. I am going to get the vet to check out Gwin when my new boy gets his booster vaccinations. I would rather know than keep wondering. I'll have to whisper into Kaya's ear that she has an admirer (sp).
Cheers for now..Cate |

Hello, I have followed this forum for the last few years though forgot my password. Now up to speed, what a fabulous site and feel i know you all! I compete in endurance with my crabbet arab mare, Bint Masra and would be very interestd if Bia could look at her % for me. She is registered with all breed pedigree.
Thanks very much in advance.

Cate, yes it's good to know if the mare is in foal and when she is due! Did you get my e-mail? I sent it from your profile.
Helen, I saw that Datasource has your boy registered as El Caramaal (one more a), is that right or wrong? Anyway.. he is 'approx' 57,01% Crabbet (57,006835) and his bloodlines is a 'mix' of Old English/Polish/Egyptian, didn't count how much of each. He looks gorgeous !!
Julie, oh wooow.. your girl is 'approx' 99,04% Crabbet (99,044795) & 100% Old English!!! I would love to see some pic's of her! She has the same tail-female line (Sobha - Selma I) as my mare in the sig-picture.
To all of you.. I've added info for your horses on allbreed!

Thank-you Bia. El Carmaal is definately the correct spelling of his name and is what is on his AHS registration documents I think he is gorgeous too and guess what - so does he My other arab is Ley Lader, I don't think any Crabbet there though - bred by Sheik Mo for racing, who is equally beautiful but in a different way |
