its not THE ONE - as i already own him but am happy to have THE SECOND ONE. bless. not sure of his breeding as can't find it anywhere. have a sneaking suspicion he might be French. lady seems to think his is a pure bred but i'm telling you now he is not going to win any beauty prizes and certainly doesn't look pure. i don't mind as he is a nice person with a good brain. and really that is all that matters.
i'll have a look at his papers on Wednesday and then hopefully some one on here will be able to help me. we shall see. not that it matters but i am curious. |

He may well be French-bred if he doesn't look 'pure', but that really isn't a bad thing at all. I have a French-bred/Spanish (Almost All) and he's as tough as old nails-won me a listed race on Dubai Day at Newbury after 14 months off!! |

the french's all look like chunky TB's to me. he has a nice face not very dished. mane is trying to be silky. but oh that tail- is a right ole tail and from what i can see of the pics not a very high tail carriage. when my boy canters you get whipped in the back by it. didn't even hear this one. my friend - great rider - but knows nothing about arabs said his tail didn't move. Do we care. No not a jot. |

Pixie, go with your heart.
If he's the right one for you, you'll know it. Don't all us Arab lovers let our heart rule our head! and whats not a very high tail carriage amongst friends?!! |

I think the French arabs are a bit of an acquired taste. I think they are rather elegant - sort of understated. Good luck Pixie, fingers crossed. Jx |

ok folks...... wait for it wait for it...... potted account
Arrived at yard - asked if i could have a wee as we'd got stuck a bit in traffic and also we were running a bit late. Lady selling does own him as bought him from her friend as her friend asked her to sell him but she said that she didn't want to do that and would buy him herself and then sell him. originally lady giving up. so bred by the Maktoums. sold as a 4 year old to lady now giving up (Carol) who sold him at Christmas to Sandra.
Brushed him as told lady not to groom him as i wanted to see what he was like - a dream Tacked him up. We had a little misunderstanding where the bit went - cheeky monkey Got up - walk trot cantered in school - although was cheeky initially and a bit lazy but no harm in him. still felt a bit edgey. my friend got on him and sharpened him up a bit and then i was away. not sharp off the leg but not backward thinking at all. much better out hacking though. had a proper engine out hacking. i just need to believe in myself a bit more. it'll be easier when i'm not worrying what a stranger thinks of me.
Went out for a hack - trotted everywhere - no cantering - kept thinking about his legs pounding along the road but thats endurance training - went into the village saw traffic, building site with flappy things - did a bit of a wiggle but thats not a spook in terms of what i'm used to. leg on and forward we go. didn't care about cars or vans. looked at a couple of drains and thought about stopping. once again leg on and away we went. didn't meet any lorries, unfortunately.
He has quite a short stride compared to my lad - although lady thinks he has quite a long stride. blimey what has my boy got them. anyway - mustn't compare - its not fair.
erm what else showed me all his endurance results - good recovering heart rate. showed me his passport - french/usa - i know some of the names and sure you guys will too. Definitely has a fench look about him. a bit pidgeon toed and bit "hocky" i know what i mean probably none of you will understand but maybe you will.
tail carriage not as bad as i first thought and nor is the tail. although someone has been at it with the scissors. straight line chop. nooooooo. but i think thats why i saw what i saw last week. it isn't that bad. Mane will be ok once washed. It has a great chunk missing - me thinks someone tried to make a bridle path and missed.
From face on he has a nice face. sideways on he is a bit common. Nice eye.
Happy to be touched everywhere - happy to be in the stable with you. just a really nice gentle person. The lady mostly rides western and i'm not really used to that its all a bit strung out for my liking. she gave me an english saddle that she uses on a pony. so it was a bit small for my bottom. even my miniature friend said there wasn't much room in it.
anyway give me time and i'll get his legs underneath him a bit more and stepping through and then the head will come in a bit and he will look a bit better.
he has a lovely soft mouth. the lady did say if she hadn't sold him she may have tried a bitless bridle with him at some point.
Anyway have left a deposit and hopefully will arrange a vetting tomorrow. Watch this space.

I REALLY like the sound of him Pixie! His stride might have been shortened because of the saddle If he's usually ridden in a western saddle, perhaps the english one you were given to try him out isn't an ideal fit?....just a thought? Anyway, really pleased all is going in the right direction so far, and very best of luck with the vetting! J |

Sounds just the job Pixie! Whats he called? Colour and height please? You sound much more enthusiastic. Your own horse is clearly a hard act to follow... |

Jillandlomond - no the saddle is not an ideal fit. clearly not causing him any harm but a bit tight me thinks and very small for me. also the stirrups were rubbish too. had mine in the car but forgot to get them out. Have asked the lady if she would lend me the saddle if i do buy him just until i can get a saddle sorted. and i don't relish that thought at all but he is fit and don't want that fitness to be undone while i wait for a saddle.
Arachnid - i would say this but my boy is a fabulous horse. Very clever, very loyal, very talented and trainable. even people who don't like Arabs really like him. He will be an act that will be impossible to follow so as i said before i shall not compare them.
He is 9 15.1'ish although advertised at 15hh but he is a little bit bigger and of course gingah or jinjour. he is by Khairouan by Cheri Bibi and I remember them as have heard of them also somewhere in the pedigree was Nevan and NEvada II and also Tripolle (Sp?). i can remember them as i've heard of them. My mind is a bit blank on the rest of the pedigree. Also he has had his parentage blood typed (or something like that) which is stamped over his passport in red. Is this a new thing? i wondered if that was because he was imported but according to the papers he was bred by the Maktoum's in Hampshire so not imported.
I don't know much about breeding these days. definitely French/USA breeding though. So any knowledge any of you have would be gratefully received.
Thanks for you kind words Moatside, Carla and Joanna.
Watch this space gang. |

pixie, Khairouan is great performance breeding - whats the USA bit, is that on the dams side? Khairouan was a top racehorse, grey and really nice looking (as an "actual horse" I mean, not a show arab! I saw him once when he was at stud but he died early) He seemed to have a lovely temperment too. The parentage testing dna stamp is probably because he was bred to race and it has to be done before they can "hit the track"! Would love to know about the USA part too.He sounds like the type of horse who will love to work - great choice! |

thats the bit i can't remember at all. I'm not familiar enough with the names let alone the lines - even if you told me one i wouldn't recognise it. i think it was french sire's side and USA dams side. but i honestly can't remember apart from the bit that said French/USA. And Moosie he is a nice looking horse but soooo defo not a pretty horse - thats not to say he is ugly but just not arab pretty if you know what i mean. |

ooooops forgot to say vetting is
baddy disappointeeee news........ Thursday next week. Easter got in the way.
and
verily goodly news........ by lovely vet who i've known for years and is a fantastic vet said he will go all the way to Peterborough for me. Woooooo hooooo - that has made me soooooooo happy.
So its a bit of wait. Spoke to the lady selling him today - they took him for a western lesson again today. nooooooo stop all that strung out nonsense the Pixie can't ride like that. sorry to call it nonsense which it clearly isn't but it is when you can't do it. Oh there nothing like rubbishing something just because "one" can't do it. lol |

Kirsty 2468 Motorway - Not sure if i will have time to get there - its an hour n a quarter there and hour quarter back and my oh is off work for the next few days and i don't see him very much anyway and want to spend SOME time with him then by Tuesday, Thursday is only the day after Wednesday. if we didn't have Easter then i would have. Does that make sense. probably not. hey ho.
Have been talking to my instructor tonight - she said that i shouldn't take too long to get rid of the "strung outness". there is no rush but it would be nice to get him to look smart. if he had western tack on he'd look fine but under english tack he looks funny. Not hollow just strung out. |
