I remember Julia I'll never be able to thank Caroline enough for selling her to me.
She's being a very good girl but we're taking things slowly...
Sorry Pixie, have gone slightly off topic |

OK went to ride my friends youngster today. Oh bless what a little star. Such a little sweetie. Not sure she is for me but i am going to hack her next week. I rode her in her jumping saddle which is like sitting on top of a board, however next week i'm going to ride in her dressage saddle so that should help a bit. 15.1 bay mare rising 5 - well 5 next year actually so is a young horse. quite balanced paces considering her age but thats because my friend is a really good rider. she is just young..... i wish she were 6...... like i said before watch this space. |

Had a good think and had a chat with my friend and my instructor and we have all come to the conclusion she is not for me. She is a very nice horse but too green really. hey ho. |

pixie.... I'm so sorry but I'm really enjoying reading your posts regarding your quest!!!
How many have you seen altogether???
Have you thought that maybe you are comparing them to your boy too much - I suppose in a way like an ex-boyfriend that you were completely in love with, it ended and then everyone you went on a date with didn't measure up to the ex-boyfriend?? On a mission to find the one, but maybe the 'one' has to be 'moulded' .... like boyfriends, things can be 'adapted' and 'taught' to the way you want them and be manipulated in a way that only a woman knows how???
Or maybe are you're scared to commit incase they are not the 'one'.....
Sorry I'm prob talking utter rubbish gone to agony aunt mode for a moment - sorry been talking to a single friend who is currently on a man quest - can you tell!!!
I do sincerely hope you find what you are looking for soon..... |

hi Kirsty - me thinks you have some valid points. My instructor rode my friends youngster today and she had a bit of trouble with her. nothing she couldn't handle but said that i wouldn't have enjoyed it very much. so thats another correct decision made i guess. my friend was completely ok with my decision and said it was worth a try and is not bothered at all. The mare is a quality horse but just not for me.
And yes i think i do compare them with my boy but like my instructor said today most people would give their eye teeth for a horse like him and thats even more impressive when you consider he is nearly 29. Ok he doesn't look much any more but then he never was show stock. but he is obedient to ride - spooky and sharp - but obedient has a wonderful nature in all ways unless you are the vet then he turns into the devil horse. And i know that I WOULD say all of this because he is mine but i'm not the only one who says it.
My instructor is not mad keen on Arabs - doesn't dislike them but is a big warmblood fan - and today even she said i think we need to find you another Arab. And having seen me on my friends youngster feels that my instincts are correct and to follow my gut - not my head or my heart.
As for how many have i looked at wellllll....... not including my friends mare around 10..... and at least 50% of them have been lame.
I am a bit scared to commit to buying another Arab because if I get it wrong then i will not want to sell and be party to pushing it from post to pillar or pillar to post - if you get my meaning. However if i buy something other than an Arab i know that i will not feel quite the same way about selling it. Now maybe thats wrong of me but thats how i feel. I think an Arab is for life not just for half an hour.
Any thoughts you have on this subject or more than welcome. |

well I would say get looking for an arab woman!!!!! Maybe thats the biggest problem that like many of us your heart lies with the breed!!!
My lad is miles away from a perfectly behaved horse to ride, we've done a lot of work and have SO much more to do to make it even close to a relaxing hack but I love him, hes a wonderful beast to be around and I would cut my legs off for him, I think about him all day and wake up at night hoping he's ok, I'm always excited to see him! And if for any reason our riding days were cut short and could never ever ride again it wouldn't change a thing! I wouldn't get rid of him and I wouldn't get another horse that I could ride.... I think with me and him its more about our 'friendship'!!!
god now I sound like a weirdo!!! |

Yes look for another arab! I always think you sit IN an arab rather than ON a horse so it feels more secure in the first place (although mine is not all that secure in reality..) What about a wanted ad Pixie or have you done that? |

i've stopped looking as at today as our yard is full at the mo. last stable was taken just yesterday - just had a phonecall confirming it. they are building more in the spring. my friend with the youngster would be able to take a new horse if i find the perfect one - but i'm having a break from it for now. i am now off to look at the sales pages and the wanted ads...... |

Originally posted September........Ok todays experience. Went about 20 mins up the road to view a 9 yr old gelding. when i got there it was fully tacked up and ready to go. so my friend led it up for me on the grass. wasn't sure it had a big enough walk for what i wanted but as its been out of work for a year due to lack of time we gave it the benefit of the doubt. my friend trotted it up. we then asked the girl if we could see it ridden. she went and got her hat and boots. and she said it was very tense on the grass and that is why its walk was short. mmmmmm not convinced at this point. so we asked her if she would ride it down the lane. i asked her to trot away and trot back. oh yes you have guessed it - IT WAS LAME. The girl did apologise but then said oh i lunged him this morning on the grass and he fell over. aaaaagggghhhh. lunging an unfit horse on slippery grass. mmmmmmm clever NOT!!!! UNQUOTE
Lady rang me yesterday saying that the above horse is now back in full work and she is keeping him but was i interested in her unbroken 4 year old mare (whose foal she has just weaned) which she paid £10k for. She would charge me £10k as knew that i'd give her an excellent home.
I told her that i had stopped looking for the time being and a) wasn't sure i wanted a mare and b) was definitely sure i didn't want to buy an unbroken horse for that amount of money. i have no doubt she may have excellent breeding but that is not a consideration for me as i don't intend to breed and would not sell her on either.
Just thought you might like an update. |

Oh no! Its such a shame when people so ridiculously over value their horses, but in the end its mostly because they love them and wouldnt sell for a penny less. Practically what about OS Plaayshal (sp?) on the geldings page? I think if I were looking I would make the trip as hes one of the only horses I've seen on AL where the owner has written that hes suitable for a novice (not that you are one Pixie but you know what I mean) |

Hi Arachnid - I know he looks and sounds lovely. we have no spare boxes at our yard at the mo. some will be coming up. i shall start looking again mid March. if he still for sale then good for me but if not then it just wasn't meant to be. he is actually not far from me either. we shall have to see. |

People are odd aren't they why would she think you'd want that! OS Plaayshal is seriously beautiful. I'm very tempted by Shogun Flame of Gold remember seeing him before and thinking he was lovely but a little far for me to travel and i'm not really in the market just yet. |

i agree it was rude to sell the said horse, when he knew you were on route to see it,he should of called you to say theres someone else veiwing,i will call you if hes available still.but then what would you of thought if it was,did they not buy it???? i have had people veiw my gelding a total beginner with a instrutor, i did ask myself how good a instruter she was, my gelding was advertised as a very green horse needs a expericened rider, (basicallly needs rebreaking)so i would not of even considered going to see a horse like mien for that ridrs ability.a waste of time for everyone,i said to the girls father,i think your daughter would be best to have lessons ,then look for a horse which has been there and got the t shirt, one to match her ability as my horse is going to be learning, just like your daughter so they will not be suitable |

I agree Joanna Piana re Shogun of Flame. Theres something really nice and compact about that horse - nice and typey and gorgeous coat (must be, I normally prefer greys) Those nice ridden geldings seem to sell quickly dont they? |

OK so was going to view a 9 year old gelding next week. Spoke to the lady selling him last night (not the owner) and was told that a lady came from Scotland on a train (5 hours) to view him and depending upon his results from an Endurance ride next week in Thetford Forest she will probably have him. I didn't even get to see this one. lol. me thinks someone somewhere is trying to tell me something. hey ho. |
