Hi Arachnid. He looks fab..... i'm having a confidence crisis at the mo. The lady has put needs confident experienced rider.
My confidence has taken a bashing........ i just don't believe in myself. Am ok on my own horse but have purposely not rang anything as just don't feel i can do it at the moment. Both my friends have agreed with me that i shouldn't look at anything in the frame of mind i'm in at the moment.
I feel sooooo fed up with looking.
Sorry to be so negative. but many thanks for your help i do appreciate it.
I think my confidence has taken a bashing as i just don't know what to do. Pathetic woman but at least i recognise my failings. I feel there is no point ringing people with this frame of mind. it just wouldn't be fair. |

Hi Pixie
Just a thought re: the confidence thing (I know exactly how you feel BTW) - why not see if you can ride friend's horses that you KNOW are safe and see how you feel about them. Adapting to stride / movement etc makes you feel awkward for the first few minutes but will give you a real boost. I got over my lack of confidence this way - things always feel far worse than they look so if the horse looks safe, sane and sensible from the ground then no matter how they feel you always have that reference point in your mind.
Hope this helps, be patient - the right horse for you is out there somewhere, the problem only comes because there is only one of you and millions of them!!

My two friends who come with me when i view horses both would let me ride their horses. no problem at all. one rides nutters for a living and has bought herself a 14.1hh coloured cob who is a sweetie. she would let me ride anytime i wanted. he is however the widest pony anyone has ever sat on. lol. my hips just can't take it for any longer that 30 mins. he is only five and very green and a bit spooky but a sweeatheart nonetheless. and i quite often walk him off for her after she has schooled him and she is riding one of the nutters. or hack him round the block whilst she is hacking on a looney. lol. my other friend's horse is 16.3hh as sharp as sharp can be. She doesn't let many people on her. because my old lad is sharp she says i could easily cope with her. she is always saying to me get on her and have a go. but just from looking i feel she is too much for me. Every summer when the mare has finished team chasing and is not really being fed much she calms down a lot and every summer i say - yes i will ride her - and then always find an excuse not too. lol.
I agree that i need to be patient and that the right horse IS out there. madly or foolishly or whatever you want to call it i can't help but feel that my new horse will find me. maybe thats rubbish but its just a feeling i get. People who know me well always tell me i'm a bit of a witch - lets hope my feelings are right.
Thanks Crusaders Angel for your kind words. as i have said before i truly appreciate any help or advice that is offered.

Aw Pixie I feel my post was too frivolous now---sorry. I know exactly what you mean about the lack of confidence. Mine was wrecked and then wrecked again in quick succession not long before I got Zaharoff. TBH he wouldn't have been anyone's choice of a confidence giver ( to say the least!)---he had only just been started aged 7 and was and still is very spooky and with no life experience whatsoever, so genuinely scared of everything---BUT, he is a wonderful kind person, and it has taken a while but we are building up our confidence together. You cope with your own boy because you know and love him, so maybe your first priority should be personality, so that you can bond first and ride later. |

Pixie, I've just read your thread beginning to end and found it very interesting and really feel for you in your quest to find 'the one' or the 'second one' in your case.
Have you tried ringing around the studs? Not sure if you want a pure bred, but when I was looking I tried a lot that were advertised all of them far off the mark and eventually decided to do a bit of cold calling as it were. I spoke to some wonderful people (and a couple of muppets but there you go!) and visited a few lovely Arabian studs. My remit was that I wanted a fairly mature ridden horse and although I was surprised at how few there were out there compared to in-hand, I did go and see a few good to middling horses. I eventually found my gorgeous girl at the Maxwells and yes did fall in love with her the minute I laid eyes on her (8yrs ago). It was also love at first sight with my previous horse, so definitely think you need to go with your heart almost more than your head, it has to 'feel' right. Anyway, just a thought. I know places like Halsdon, Phoenix and Coombe Farm to name but a few, sell a lot of good ridden horses but very rarely advertise.
Good luck and keep your chin up !

thanks again Al'ers.
Jaj.... One of my friends suggested cold calling. I am going to try that in the Spring if i haven't found anything. My theory is that as foals are born studs may have to sell older stock to make room.
Zan don't worry your head - not frivolous at all. Its good to be amusing.
I've only looked at 3 arabs and serveral PB's. 2 of the arabs were lame and the other one just didn't have a big enough walk for me and the lady showing her off - very well known and respected - agreed with me and said that the mare loses points with her walk in dressage. And also the little devil bit me on the arm. lol. i was warned she was a bit mareish. hey ho.
One of my friends rang a dealer based near Gatwick airport. She said that she had a nice chat with the lady and there may be some mileage in pursuing this. No Arabs i'm afraid. Most TBxID or part connies. Not sure about a part connie. every part connie i've ever known has been a little devil. lol. your comments greatly appreciated on connies. Although having said that i don't think i'm going to view this side of Krimbo. but if i do i'll keep you posted. |

I know what you mean about losing confidence, I'm fine with Shida cause i've had her so long but if I got on another horse who did some of the things she does (not that she does a lot but when they turn from donkey into arab if you know what I mean) it doesn't bother me on her cause I know her limitations and she doesn't actually go anywhere but on an unknown I think it would be quite scary cause you don't know if they're going to buck, rear, tank off etc. Chances are they won't but tensing could cause them to! Anyway I think you're doing the right thing being cautious and waiting for the one. |

Spider's two best friends are part Connies. One of them is an affliated dressage pony and is completely angelic. The other one can be a bit stressy but a lovely mare nonetheless. My YO did have a devil-Connie that no-one could stay on but we assumed he was the exception not the rule. Are you near Gatwick Pixie? Harwoods were v friendly and honest when I was looking (and at Horsham). Jx |

I am about 90 mins from gatwick on a good day....... I am going to add Harwoods to my list of studs to call. thanks for that.
And thanks Jaj for your experience of a pb connie..... but you see it would the the arab that would have made her brilliant, fearless, beautiful and full of character and the connie would have just been an after thought. lol. no offence meant. so really she wasn't a pb connie she was a pb arab. lol.
Any further thoughts experiences of connies gratefully received.
i want the angel variety not the devil variety. if nothing else this thread is amusing me. |

Hi pixie, just go careful with this dealer! I know you will but if its the same one (Im sure it is) I had a 2 clients have dreadful experience with this lady! And they both lost a lot of money and went through a lot of heartache. Sorry, didnt want to add to your frustration. I cant remember the lady's name but think she was into Showjumping and dealt with horses to help fund it. Leighx |

I used to have an anglo x connemara when I was a teenager and he was absolutely brilliant in every way although he'd obviously blotted his copybook at some point as I got him quite cheap off a local dealer and I remember winning a jumping class on him locally and someone coming up and expressing there complete amazement that it was the same pony but he never put a foot wrong with me. Although he didn't like ditches! Personally wouldn't go near a dealer now cause you have to wonder how the horse ended up there in the first place. |

I agree with all the aliners who have said you will know when you find the right one. I lost my part bred arab after 12years and when I was ready to start looking for another horse I had much the same experience as you. I too asked all the right questions and quite often ended up not even getting the horse out of the stable. I too found one horse who fitted my requirements but did not light any fires. Eventually I found (or should i say was found by) Dan. Hold on to what you want. It is out there somewhere and when you find it you will know you have |

Hi Pixie Maybe you can't find a horse that you actually want to buy because you have a nice one already? I had a horse on a fixed term loan and I knew she would go back, and I looked at two to buy about 2 months before she went back, but couldn't actually commit to anything until she actually went. I arranged to look at 2 within 2 days of the loan horse going and I felt more sort of free to commit to one once I didn't have anything. There is a nice-sounding 14.2 loan-before-buying on one of the forums now. Good luck |

May be you have something there Alix......
My friend is selling a 15.1 5 year old mare ...... a good friend - we've known one another years and she knows what i am and am not capable of - Anyway i am going to have a sit on her. Not really with a view to buy but may be a view to sharing her/loaning her/buying her - who knows. She originally bought this horse to bring on and eventually event so that when her daughter was ready for a horse it would be a ready made one. However her financial situation has changed and basically she needs to sell her because she couldn't bare to loan her to anyone she doesn't know. Watch this space.
Also a new lady on our yard with a new horse - bombproof - non spooky - kind - gentlemen - yeah righto..... out on her second hack today he bucked her off with a sucession of bucks and when she finally hit the floor he ran away across 3 fields. mmmmmmm i don't want one of those. me thinks she has been had.
Like i said before its a big fat lottery. |

I once went in to a tack shop to buy a pair of boots, saw an advert on the notice board and within an hour had bought my first PBA. Now that horse definitely found me |

I moved to London after I graduated from University and decided to look around for a horse to share. I saw an advert on here for a PBA, happily started sharing him and became friends with his owner. She invited me along to the AV Arabians Open Day where I fell in love with a certain chestnut mare
By no means was I looking to buy a horse at that time, but as soon as I saw her I knew she was my soulmate A string of lucky coincidences led me to find her...
Good luck - seriously, they do turn up when you least expect it

Trust me its not always loanees that are timewasters we went to look at a shetland pony on Saturday to keep my yearling company when I ride the mare out, we drove over and offered vets references invited her to come and vet us the home etc, she did not turn up ring or anything I was furious now I have decided to get something that will not only be a companion for my yearling but something that I can ride as well and mayber get a foal from later on from my stallion but we were frozen when we went to see the pony and caught it for her when it escaped into the garden as SHE did not close the gate properly she did not even us a cup of tea or say thank you or anything mind yu neither of us really liked the look of the woman anyway |
