thanking you. Spoke to my instructor about him today. She said that once i hack him i will know if he is the one. I asked her how she knows that I WILL KNOW. She just said "oh believe me you will". So we shall see. When i think about him i sort of wish he was a bit more off the leg but also having said that he hadn't been ridden for 2 weeks and is not very fit so that means he is at least calm and laid back but also could mean that he will turn into something else as and when he is fit and i start to feed him or it could mean he is lazy or could mean nothing at all. i do keep thinking about him and am looking forward to Saturday. Like i said we shall see...... |

Pixie,
I have everything crossed, glad they changed the day.Maybe getting caught up in the hunt would be a bit "challenging" for a trial hack.
Good luck

IS HE THE ONE? MMMMMMMMMM nope he isn't the one because i already own THE ONE but THE ONE is not getting any younger.
OK hacked him didn't put a foot wrong. a bit lazy off the leg but nothing a quick tap up with a stick couldn't cure. he is not very fit. bless. He did spook a couple of times but didn't actually do anything.
The lady gave me his last 5 stage vetting and we know the previous owners. My friend knows them really well so she rang them and its a good genuine story.
I like him a lot - he is a nice person. wish he was a bit quicker off the leg but am hoping that will improve once he knows what is expected of him. Will probably put an offer in tomorrow (subject to vetting) of course.
Sorry i don't sound very excited but we had some news tonight - not horrid - but not very nice and has left me and my OH feeling a bit fed up and flat.
I want to be excited but am still feeling a bit like this buying horses mallarky is a big fat lottery. you spin the wheel and hope for the best.
Any comments/questions/advice welcome. bring it on AL'ers.
Thanking you. |

Will be shot for this but is he young enough to sell on if he doesnt become more responsive? Or would they let you have him on trial? |

Hi all and especially you Arachnid - i have to thank you for you comment last week........... You were and are right with regard to my lack of enthusiasm and you made me think. i know my above post sounded like i was going ahead well guess what i haven't. he is not right for me and my judgement yesterday was clouded with the news we had.
This morning i got up and just thought you know what if it doesn't work out i'll sell him and that is what you have put too.
Well you don't buy a horse with that thought in the back of you mind NOW DO YOU. shouting at myself.
When i rang the lady today to tell her that although he was lovely in every way but that he wasn't for me i felt a wave of relief.
I cannot buy a horse just because he is the best of the bunch i have seen so far. and yes my comments still stand re i am not getting any younger nor any braver but you know what i don't have to settle for 4th or 5th best.
I keep thinking about the little grey pony that i was too big for. i would buy him in an instance if he were the right size and i need to have that feeling about anything i buy.
thanks Arachnid - i really do appreciate your help and anyone elses.
Sorry if i'm boring you. I am slightly getting on my own nerves. lol |

I don't think you're a time waster. As someone who has just had the most horrendous, stressful time ever finding the right horse, i know how you feel!] I bought my dream horse and found that her previous owners had lied through their teeth about her. It's a long story, and i won't bore you. Ultimately i had to spend a huge amount of time/emotion/effort and money getting her right before i could think of selling her on (she was downright dangerous on the roads and as i was looking for a hack...!). Fortunately she went to someone who took her on with all her issues and wanted a challenge. She is now doing very well. So my search began again, only for me to discover i had totoally lost any faith or confidence in anyone attempting to sell me a horse. Luckily for me i happened upon a lovely yearling filly, who is everything i have ever wanted and more. I met a few lovely, passionate, interesting people on the way. I also met some people who i feel would have done anything to sell me their horse. It was an appalling, disheartening experience which i hope never to repeat. I suppose my advice to you would be, keep going. Follow your instincts and your gut reactions, they are usually right. If you feel there is something not quite right, you're probably spot on. The right one will come along, but it will take time. I hope you're as lucky as i feel right now. I would recommmend going to a reputable breeder any time. They have a reputation to keep up and the ones i have spoken to in recent months have not only helped me find my filly, but have restored my faith in the horsey community. Ros |

There are serveral but soooooooo far away. 3 hours or more in the car and then back again. And maybe i'll have to do . I really hate leaving my old boy for the day and getting other people to do him. There is a gelding in Cambridge which i'm thinking of ringing. he is only 5 though. not sure i'm ideally suited to a 5 year old and really don't want to waste the lady's time. i need to think about it. i did email her before i realised he was only 5 and explained i was looking at the horse on Sunday and if it didn't work out it would get back to her. now she is going to think i'm a right pain in the ...... (fill in your own word) if she reads all of this. sort of thought i'd give myself a break. its soooo stressful not enjoyable at all. |

Well it sounds like you made the right decision you definately weren't excited enough! I'm sure you're horse is out there you just haven't found each other yet. When the time is right you will i'm sure. I'm still keeping my eyes open for you but doesn't seem a lot about locally at the mo. |

Ps I dont think youth should necessarily put you off. Spider and I escorted a couple of my friends at a riding school on Sunday and one of the riding school ponies was only 4 but so sensible. He just had a lovely temprement. Now Spider is eight but I know he'll never be a 'novice ride' bless him (thats so disloyal isnt it?) |

nope not disloyal at all just realistic. I wouldn't put a novice on my old boy either.
Joanna-pianna - it was definitely the right decision because i feel good about the decision today. not disappointed or flat or anything. so he wasn't for me.
Thanks to all of you for your advice and thought provoking opinions.
I have to remind myself that there is no rush and i don't have to settle for an "also ran".
Watch this space. I will try to keep you amused Arachnid but hopefully not for too long - what did i just say? THERE IS NO RUSH - shouting at myself again. lol |
