I'm rubbish at taking pictures. As I didn't breed him I can say that he is a very handsome boy. however that is not why I bought him. Handsome is as Handsome does.... |

Aaaaaaaaargh!!! Screams of delight for you Pixie! Have only copped onto this thread and thought to take a look when I saw your new sig pic! Clever! (You, not me!) Anyway I just wanted to add my congrats on your new boy, Tayf! He is savage (strange Irishism, means lush!)! I applaud you on your patient (and entertaining! (sorry,it was at times!) search) but it has all paid off. You've hit gold Pixie! I wish you and Tayf all the luck in the world - go forth and conquer!!! |

lol at Totalrookie's post and thanks NatnTaz - come and see him when you have time.
If you had seen me riding him in the school this morning the words "Go forth and conquer" wouldn't have been at the fore front of you mind. lol. Everything is sooooo new and I'm sooooo one horsed. Trotting around holding on the neck strap. snigger. just get a nice rythmn going let go of neck strap and then he slows down apply a bit of leg and he wooshes forward. lose my balance again back on the neck strap. Its making me laugh. I feel like I've never had a horse before and I'm learning to ride all over again. Silly really. I am still enjoying it though. Can't imagine how I cantered when I went to try him. Like I said its really making me laugh. Have to master walk halt walk halt walk trot walk halt etc before I start cantering. Rome wasn't built in a day and I'm going nowhere and neither is he.
You see you can still laugh at me. |

Oh Pixie you made me laugh i was reminising as i was reading your thread back when we first had carz.. I was used to and knew my old boy.. sec d inside out .. so when i jumped on carz i sat in my usual position and she did not move!!! My old boy you had to pop on keep legs of and keep gentle hands as he was oooooof..she was like duuuuur ye what u want me to do!! So i relaxed squeezed slightly with my legs and said quietly forward and my we were of in the most together forward walk and automaticly she went on the bit.. Shes a push button ride with the softest mouth slight squeeze or a sound command its all instant and floaty pure heaven.. He was high knee chop chop ride.. no mouth.. and gave you the unpredictable huge buck and boult that i had mastered and did not fear after so many years!! Arabs are the best and at present my yearling i am over the moon with and dote on and cant get enough of.. So so pleased you have found a beautifull arab and i wish you a long partnership.. BUT please make us all a promise and keep the post coming of your progress as i love reading your post and picturing the scene in my mind.. I am away as from tomorrow evening for a week or so but when i get back i shall be straight back on this thread to hear your news on how this wonderfull partnership is forming.. Sarah x

Pixie I remember when I first rode my old mare (well she wasnt old then!) after being used to a rather nice cob and a lovely fizzy part bred pony - well no way could I sit to her trot or even ride her trot properly at all at first - bounce bounce flop lurch - ye gods must have looked a right plonker - never had the good sense to include a neck strap |

Moosie you made me laugh - bounce bounce flop lurch...... thats me to a tee.
This morning got my lovely friend to ride him in the school and then take him over our now cut giant hayfield. She said she completely understood what I was talking about. As when comes down a gear he does it quite quickly. She was managing rather better than I but at least she understood what I was talking about. So its not just me then.
He was such a good boy. A bit anxious in the hayfield at first and gave the x country jumps a bit of a look. But nothing surprising really. Trotting on the end of the buckle and quite happy. My turn tomorrow if its not pouring with rain. He is a happy boy and quite uncomplicated.
Asked her to ride him as wanted it to be a nice day for him. All positive and no nerves and just to have a fun time. If I'd taken over the hayfield I wouldn't have had him on the end of the buckle. Wouldn't have been brave enough.
His spooks are quite fast but doesn't actually go anywhere - well so far anyway. So all is good in my life.

Dressage is sooooo not happening until I come back from Kefalonia - mid September and probably not going to happen until October or maybe even February - lol.
Getting on was easier today. Just stood still and stepped sideways once I was in the plate. Rather than walking off before I'd managed to swing my leg over.
Trotting was better today - still with neck strap but actually it was just there in case he jinked rather than me needing it. Downwards transitions were a bit smoother. Might not have looked it but from a feeling point of view it felt better.
The neck strap was needed when cantering. Might actually put a saddle strap on to get me deeper in the saddle. Only did a little bit but he is so different from my other lad.
Yee ha. Still having fun though.
Are you all bored yet........ well I don't care because I haven't got to go and look at any lame donkeys this week. Yay
My friend had a horse vetted today and it failed. I feel really sorry for him. Still onwards and upwards. He will find something it just may take time. |

I haven't really responded to his history as don't know that much about it. The previous owner (get me previous owner) bought him from the breeder as an 8 year old. Did a bit of show jumping - just local stuff - did a couple of x countries again local stuff - did a bit of dressage - more local stuff - always got placed. Showing..... maybe you lot know more about than I do. The only thing I do know for definite is he came 2nd at Hocon this year under saddle. Again am sure some of you know more about this than I do.
I know I sound ignorant but didn't really care what he'd done in the past that wasn't that important to me. Now if he'd raced I would have known all the facts and figures and would have bored you lot even more rigid than I am doing now. lol
What is important is what he does in the future and the immediate future all I care about is that he doesn't try killing me. I am chuckling at that.
Hey Ho...... don't know what else to say really. Sorry guys. |

Some of you genuine sellers do suffer - I know and for what it is worth you have my sympathy. Unfortunately Paul its not worth a lot.
There are too many "fools" out there selling and buying.
You will see me at Huntingdon - I shall be wearing a full length stinky brown rain coat with the hood up. Linda will probably refuse to be seen with me. Snigger. I'll just follow her about stinking. |

Well today we had back shoes put on. Yay. Didn't care at all. My farrier really liked him. He reckons my two are the easiest he horses he does. Even if the old boy doesn't have the best feet.
Tacked up got ready to hack and the heavens opened. What a storm. The wheelbarrows had at least 2 inches of rain in them. It was a torrent. Thunder and lightening. So back in the school we go. Didn't do that much - he was really unsettled by the sounds outside. Just kept walking on a nice soft rein and he settled eventually. And thats where I left it. Trot is coming. Didn't canter today. Tomorrow we will try hacking again. |

You asked for an update......
Well got both my boys ready for hacking today. Musjid's hundred million billionth hack - Tayf second since arriving. Lead them both round the corner to the mountain block. Yay Musjid didn't try to take him out so that was a bonus. Hopped up on Musjid. Sam took Tayf and down the road we went. He was spooking at everything......Her instructions from me are to ride with very little leg and hardly any rein. Enough leg to give him confidence but not a strong leg. Poor girl. She is such a brilliant rider though. He spooks but doesn't go anywhere. its odd. Musjid spooks and goes somewhere big stylie and real fast. Tayf just jumps. It made me laugh and laugh. On the way back he completely settled. So all good.
Fine with cars and vans. The previous owner did say he was ok but you just don't know. At every opportunity I expose him to the tractors on the yard and he looks a bit uneasy and I just pat him and he settles and happily walks or stands next to them.
So far so good he was worth the wait.
First proper lesson tomorrow - excited. I might see if my instructor will put me on the lunge to see if I can find my seat a bit better. Not looking forward to no stirrups but no pain no gain. Will see what she says.
Phoned the saddler today as the saddle is ok on him - was checked the second day I had him - but makes you sit a bit one sided and a bit downhill so definitely needs tweaking. (shhhhh or might have to have a new one - lets not say that bit out loud). anyway he's is going on holiday and will visit at the end of August.

Cor Blimey Pixie!
I haven't read any of this topic since the 1st page until today phew!
Just confirms for me the the only way to get my ideal horse that meets all those behavioural/health "wish-list" criteria is to raise it myself from a foal.
Congratulations & best of luck with your new boy. |

Lesson....... fantastic. Not on the lunge. Lots of trotting changing direction etc but have found my seat/balance in trot. Have a way to go in canter as am still relying on my balance strap but hey at least I'm not jabbing him in the mouth. yee ha..... |

aaaarh Paddington - DARN it - was going to offer you that ginormous pot of super glue I found in the scuppers - for you special price and all that - and now you arent going to need it as your posterior has evedently glued itself nicely into position all of its own accord - oh well will have to stash it in my tack room, am sure it will come in useful one day.xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx G & SM |
