I don't think I can do this anymore. Its not just my time, its not just the diesel money, its not just my friend's time its all the emotion that goes with it. Today I keep thinking about him. I am not in a position to rescue anything. Yes I have money for my boy and A N Other and neither will go without anything. but I cannot buy a crock and then feel sorry for them when I leave them behind. Makes me feel sick for a couple of days. Yes I know I get over it but these animals cannot help themselves.
In fairness the woman selling didn't have a clue. But in my book ignorance is no defence. Don't have animals if you don't know enough about them. |

Yes you can Pixie. Say after me "I can and will do this until I find the right horse" Come on now, nice and loud!
I keep looking for you but so far haven't come up with anything I'd want myself so wouldn't pass it on.
There is a horse out there with your name on so don't get despondent, keep positive. You know you can do it. |

I keep looking for Pixie too. Actually you are making the rest of us feel rather blessed (even if we weren't before). I absolutely cant believe your bad luck - sorry thats not at all helpful. There must be dozens of nice horses out there. What about compromising and going to see the novice, just ridden away, types (I cant believe I just wrote that) Julia-with-one-dodgy-leg - should have listened to friends and bought an older horse - though he IS lovely now at nearly nine. No, I take it back, look for a nice nine year old thats already broken someone's leg and is now rather better behaved. |

To cheer myself I have booked a weekend away with a dear non horsey friend. go next Friday 20th and come back next Sunday 22nd. Sardinia. Never been before. 5 star hotel etc etc. Well if I can't spend the money on a gee gee might as well enjoy it somehow.
Feeling a bit better today. Yes you are right something will come along when I least expect it. |

Actually thats a great idea -spend ALL of your 'horse fund' then the ideal horse (but slightly out of your agreed budget) will be offered to you as if by magic |

Pixie, I'm sure you've looked and looked again, but some very nice additions to the Sales pages on here. Well I think so, but maybe not your cup of tea? Uuuuuuggghhh! How infuriating for you. It just gets to the point where it's soul-destroying, for all of the reasons you've already stated. Can't think of anything helpful to say except I think your break to Sardinia's a wonderful idea. |

This week.....
I have trawled the interweb. Nothing I really fancy. I rang up about a couple of horses
One a arab x warmblood. Bred by the girls uncle. She was 19 and had backed it and got it started. No it hadn’t had its flu and tet. Yes they’d had it since it was born and she been working on it since it was 5. Now 9 but still really green.
So 4 years you've been working this horse and its still green. What? Have you only ridden it once a month or something. BIG FAT LIAR!!! Remember she started working on it when it was 5 and its now 9 and its still green. Mmmmmmm that makes perfect sense. NOT!
The other one – irish cob x tb – nice little horse in the picture but sounded like it could be sharp. Some of the questions I asked the woman clearly she didn’t really understand what I was asking or had never ridden it.
Me - Is he good in traffic. Her - Yes although if it’s a lorry he will spook a bit. Me - How does this spook manifest – does he prop, jump sideways, spin round, run off Her – I don’t know really Me – why don’t you ride him Her – yes Me – Sorry I don’t understand when he spooks at a lorry what does he do Her – well its hard to explain
Well it would be hard to explain when you don't know what you are talking about and making it up as you go along.
WEIRDOS!!!!
Is it me? Please feel free to tell me it is me and then perhaps I will learn from my mistakes.
I'm hardly Horse Woman of the Year – I’m just an ordinary untalented rider with basic knowledge. What is wrong with these people. Why are they allowed to own animals. They shouldn’t even be allowed to have goldfish. Dead ones at that.

At least you managed to talk to her, I have found a pure bred about 10 miles from me, but only have e-mail, have asked them to call me, but they haven't, they have just replied to my e-mail asking if I would like an appointment to view, I would just like a phone call to discuss the horse and what it has done!!! |

You see just yet more proof these people are WEIRDOS
Why can't they use a telephone? Its hardly new technology.
Seriously thinking of taking my horse money and putting it down as a deposit for a holiday home somewhere and the money I would spend on livery can go on a mortgage.
Rant over! |

Hey we've got a really cute Shetland for sale at our yard - perhaps you should just buy that it's only Ł500 and you could take it for walks it's very cute. My friend is trying to persuade her boyfriend he should buy it instead of getting a dog ha ha |

Moosie I'm never offended. Life is too short. Actually I am offended...... by all those losers out there trying to sell broken ponies. Now thats offensive.
Love to play with Shep sometime but not football as that is in room 101. I think Tahir secretly keeps taking it out. Although she says not! Anyway I could play pawball with him. |

Pawball is a seriously good game, and with 3 'mutts' about at the moment - endless fun!!! And I repeat, IT IS NOT ME THAT KEEPS TAKING THAT STUPID GAME OUT OF ROOM 101, but I just might (stamping foot), purely to keep my sons occupied so I can have more time to play pawball and horsies!!!! So There!!!!
Maybe Shep and Pixie would like to play pawball with Fen, Minnie and Noodle - that's almost a 'team', no doubt Alfie, Lupin, Sam, Pip and Dougal would love to join in - aaaaggghhh, that's almost a football team!!!! (Wasn't me that let it out, honest guv!!!)

Oh my.... I've read the whole 16 pages of this and I really do think your having awful luck! BUT I also think your wish list is very long and critera is very narrow... Don't discount everything under 6! I was taking school rides out on my purebred when he was 3 and he's never put a foot wrong! ( he's 16 now and yes he's still the usual silly arab but always kept ,e safe LOL) I had an anglo that I had from a foal and after 4 years took the very hard decision that she was to hot for me and had to be sold, which is amazing becasue my purebred is always sharp, but I trust him.
I put an advert on the wanted section of AL which stated -gelding, 15hh+, 3 years + must be safe sane , hacking out alone and in company and good in traffic and good enough to show, the MOST important critera was temprement. as my anglo was a stroppy mare to say the least.
I got a call from a lovely lady in somerset ( we're in sheffield!) who thought her boy was the one for me... he's 15.3hh 3 years old pure bred crabbat gelding and the NICEST person on the planet! BUT he's not backed as yet .... Hmmmmmm ... lots of conversations later and she brought him up , after me only seeing him in pictures !!
Now this may be winging it to the EXTREME ... but i'm a great believer in 'all things for a reason'
When I got my old boy I'd bought him before I touched him as it truely was love at first sight, and my instints were 100% right, and my new boys is exactly the same , I just know he's the one...
PUT AN ADVERT ON HERE ! you'll be amazed what's just around the corner
(and I did have lots of friends telling me to get something other then an arab as I'd lost my confidence with my anglo and needed something quieter, but my heart was only with the breed..)
Lots of luck with your continued search!

i have got a 9 year old arab that is very green because she was broken at 4 then had foals since so yes can be green at 9, it depends on how fussy you are, what you want horse for etc, but you know that!

I know you probably ALL think I'm fussy. But I can offer a really good home, good level of care for the right horse. I'm not ready to buy something that is not suitable only to pass it on. Thats not fair to the horse.
My wish list is long and is a bit narrow but like I've said before it is JUST A WISH LIST. All those boxes don't need to be ticked.
I have actually not seen that many sound horses and am certainly not going to buy a lame horse. I have made loads and loads of phonecalls. Not posted all of them on here and frankly these people shouldn't be in charge of a telephone let alone an animal.
I have seen too many people buy the wrong horse in the past and ended up in a complete pickle with them. I know my limitations and my capabilities and I know what I can and cannot do. To be over horsed is something I will just not consider as it is just not fair to the horse either.
Thank you for your comments.
The search continues. |

The post from Pheonixbruka made me think a bit; and so I revisited page 14 of this thread to review my wish list.
My wish list stands. There is nothing on there that is unreasonable to expect from a horse that you are paying good money for. If i were only prepared to pay peanuts then maybe I would have to expect a quirk or two or 4 or 10. I am prepared to pay good money for a good horse. I shall bide my time like so many of you have said something will come along one day - maybe not one day soon but there is no rush. |

Well a lot of you will proberly bite my head of now BUT I believe they find you a majority of the time .. Or when you see it you just know and thats before you sit your backside on it.. At the mo the chap who is across the rd from me has the most beautifull black fell which he has taken in to help friend out as they have had major op on their hand and will never be able to ride again.. So he has it there to look after and ride until sold.. the tack with it is also brand new and again to die for.. To many they would not like this horse.. not their type... BUT me am smitten by him.. I was offered him for loan a couple days ago but turned him down as i dont need him or can really afford to keep another.. BUT am drawn to him his names Lewey!!!! Jet black with hammer markings BUT i dont need him!!!! Hes papered and been shown BUT i do believe they find you!!!! I cant justify another.. or can i .. no i cant afford it.. saddle was scrummy and would fit my arse!!!! They find you!!! |

Ooh Nutter my friend has fell ponies and they are rather lovely. She had a stallion and hopefully her mare is in foal so i'm looking forward to visiting a yummy Fell baby next year. She's had her stallion gelded now so she'll be most upset if she isn't. They do have lovely temperaments and seem to be quite laid back. Sadly she lost her other gelding who was her pride and joy to cancer at the age of 5 but he was jumping round the cross country cross and she was hoping to do dressage so can definately recommend them. |
