Pixie,
Please don't be offended cos I don't mean to find entertainment in your misfortune, but I absolutely love this thread! It's like a long-running soap opera and everytime I log in I check to see if it's been added to - if it has, I'm sooo excited! Hmmmmmmm. Perhaps I should get out more..... Having said that, I wish you all the luck in the world with your search for a new horse - and - I really think you'd be a fab novelist or something!! |

Re: whether to buy a youngster thing
My friend has had both her horses injured. One kicked and one with a broken pedal bone.
Very bad luck to have them both off at the same time.
Anyway they both need to start being walked out.
Yesterday I rode her 17 year old and she rode her 5 year old.
Well the 17 year old had a bit of a jog and was a little spooky but was a really good boy - bless him. Didn't put a foot wrong consdering he has been in his box for a while.
The 5 year old - bearing in mind she hasn't been turned out yet so very understanbly she was spooky, sharp, wobbly, worried. Well thank goodness my friend was riding her because there is no way that my nerve would have held. It was funny for me to watch but I would not have wanted to ride her for all the tea in China. She is lovely in every way to handle and will be ok again when she is allowed out.
Anyway why do I tell you this story......... It has made me decide that a 5 year old is not for me. I know she has been in her box but far toooooo wobbly for my ability. I could manage the spooking and the sharpness but the balance is another issue.
Just thought you might like an update. and if I ever mention buying a 5 year old please someone remind me of this.
Thanks
edited to say could manage the spooking |

Pixie..... not all 5 year olds are the same!! My (at the time) very green 4 year old was always a poppet to ride, non spooky, not sharp just not very "up" on aids She learnt very quickly and we had no problems. On the other hand we had a Sec D mare aged 11 who was a nightmare They are all different. Really hope you find what you are looking for - I have given up and decided to have my little Arab started this year instead of next year I was going to leave her as she was unhandled (completly) until I got her end of November but she is calm, relaxed and taking to domesticity like a duck to water so I am going to bite the bullet Could be the start of a whole new thread.... ...its good that you have friends with horses at differing stages of their riding education... at least it rules out a few things for you....
Nobody can say you've gone into buying a new horse lightly!! |

Its quiet because I've looked at nothing....... Have phoned about a three. But my heart was just not in two of them. Would have just been going thru the motions and I'M NOT A TIMEWASTER. There was one that I really wanted to view - looked and sounded a lovely boy - but the lady had some people going to view him and wanted to give them first option. she said she would call me if they didn't want him. She hasn't called.
I have once again thought about looking at non Arabs but apart from one mare that I might have been interested in nothing really stood out to me.
Also the boy wonder has really picked up after his shoulder injury and is doing more and more. The vet did say he would take 6-12 weeks for him to pick up again. I'm on about week 8. He is such a fantastic horse - I know I would say that because he is mine but I'm not the only one who says it. People who are not Arab fans are fans of his. Anyway the reason I tell you this is that I know I will not be able to love another horse unless there is something special about them or they tick all my boxes. I am not prepared to just settle for any horse. Also that wouldn't be fair to the horse either. This week has reminded me of this. I guess I've sat back and reviewed my wish list/requirements.
I have viewed a few videos on various websites with regard to non Arabs - 3 of the horses were clearly lame behind. I mean how stupid is that. Why would you video a lame horse and try to sell it. Its hardly a selling feature now is it!
There just isn't much out there that fits my bill. When you look on the websites the same old horses just come up - they don't seem to sell and then get relisted. This isn't true of AL I have to say.
Also I'm going away on 15th to 22nd May so will start afresh after this. So nothing new to tell - Sorry to disappoint.
Sorry this post is a bit of a jumble......

Thanks folks. Am off to warmer climes to do absolutely nothing. I will still wake up in the middle of the night wondering if the boy wonder is ok and does he miss me etc etc. But my OH needs a holiday. He works very hard to keep me and my pony in the style to which we have become accustomed. Bless him. |

Have a brill holiday Pixie, and take time out to chill (drink and eat loads!!), sightsee (don't forget the pics, especically the funny ones!!), pamper yourself and OH (cos you both deserve it!!), and don't lose sleep over boy wonder (he's old enough, and handsome enough to look after himself!!). Once you are relaxed and sun-tanned, the perfect horse will find you.

Have deleted boring, lazy?, uninteresting, dull & ignorant - so that just leaves you with a 'questionable' lazy and chilled out!!!! Sounds good to me and the perfect way to enjoy a holiday!!!

Well I'm back and am searching for a pony. A friend of a friend of mine has just bought a 14.1 Connie type. What a nice little pony. That would do me just fine. I am now branching out well extending my search into natives. Oh what joy
edited to say actually he is a lovely pony but 14.1 is a bit weeny........ you see i don't know what i want anymore! |

Aargh thats nasty!!!! as i loved my old boy and the 4 year mare is a sweetie but i dont care what anybody says they take longer than the arabs to obsorb learning/whatever!!!! Also just as difficult to get saddles to fit as so damn wide!!!! Joking apart good luck with your quest for a native Think whats it to be natrual or hogged or trimmed!! teehee!!! Our had pulled mane no feather and short forlocks i cant do natrual natives!!! and full clip in winter!!!! |

lol at Nutter. Why oh why don't they understand open gate walk round gate. Why do they do that I will push my chest into the gate thing. I've never known any Arab not get it. I've known plenty of cobs that will try to walk thru a gate full on. Not in a nasty way just stupid. I'm laughing now. Oh and what about you will hold my feet up to pick them out. Never known an Arab that didn't pick its foot up and was ready with the next one before you are. Sorry all you cobs out there you are lovely but probably not for me. Probably just kidding myself and feeling a bit like I need to look at something...... |

Youve got it spot on!!!!! I put feeds in stables before i turn them in arabs walk straight in and go straight to feed.. cob looks at you to say have i got one!!!! Yes you have in its usual place!!! i have to physicly walk in her stable and point at it!!! Arabs keep stables clean cob has in hers 2 refilable water troughs she poos in both every night that shes in... so has to have large pot of water as arabs also!!! Have to say though she is a great ride and does not spook at anything and is only just 4 years.

you see Nutter its a trade off and thats what I'm hoping for.
Letter to..... Dear Non Arab type - I will glady put up with you being a stupid thick head and help you pick your feet up and will have patience to train you and will be very nice to you but in return you have to never spook. If you are going to be a thicko dunderhead then you are not allowed to shy at anything. Yes Anything...... |

But my word!!! When a Cob shies, it seriously shies, and demolishes anything in it's path. Whereas when an Arab shies, they generally avoid anything human, or anything living for that matter, and they definitely avoid anything that might hurt them!!!! Just my general opinion before I upset anyone!!!

Oh how right you are. No self preservation and anything in its wake goes too. However thats just it Carla it will not be allowed to shy. It will be a bike in horses clothing or I will not be buying it. Lets face it we all know I just want an Arab really and I'm just kidding myself. |
