Pretty much the same as you I think - THE one - I have a fantastic coloured traditional Gyspy Cob who is an absolute star and who does his first 40km on Sunday. Thing is even though he's fit and great I don't think he will be able to do long distances( has tied up in the past and worry about this obviously but might be wrong maybe-have to wait and see) and I just think a second horse will take the pressure off him a bit. So I figure that the best thing is to look for a horse that has the performance breeding and the capacity to go far (literally) if that's where fate takes us. I'm not against a youngster - seems like more choice then but ideally would be looking for around 6 ish but not done Endurance before and just ready to start,15-2, honest and willing.......not asking for much then!! I won't be selling on either so got to make the right decision to start with as much as I can!!

Oh Pixie, how heartbreaking. I've been reading this thread for some time and logged on today expecting and hoping good news. Still, better to have the truth now however disappointing but I empathise totally with your dismay at the prospects for this poor horse. I was talking to a lady last week with a gorgeous grey arab x 12yr old gelding which she has done some serious endurance with but is now looking to sell as she is getting too old (like 70!) My riding instructor has given him a workout and says he is good. Might be of interest? I spent about 5 months looking for my perfect mare - OK she has one or two minor issues but to me she's just fabulous and I love her to bits! When it's the right one, you just know!

Wasn't meant to be this time. Keep on looking, he/she is out there, you just need to find each other !! Not easy I know, but it will happen and everything comes to she who waits (crap cliche I know but can't think of a better one at the moment !!). |

Rang about a nice little horse today 10 year old gelding 15hh. non Arab. Good to jump, respectable dressage test etc. owned for 2 years. daughter out grown. so go thru all my normal questions. Lady sounded really nice said she'd had loads of phone calls but only wanted to sell him to an experienced and life time home etc. Asked does he load into lorry/trailer. she hesitated then said. I have to be honest with you as you sound like a nice person. There is a real knack to getting him on and I can show you the knack and it will always work. It sometimes takes an hour though. Once it took us 3.
NO NO NO NO NO I don't want to load a horse that you have to have a "knack" with. My old boy hasn't been on a lorry or a trailer for nearly 4 years and i can guarantee I could drop a ramp and he would stride up it looking all pleased with himself. Ranting! Again!!!!
She was a nice lady and at least she was honest.
Why are there so many horses for sale that are lame, quirky, unrideable, difficult. Why haven't they had a proper education when they were younger. So many questions which have so many answers. hey ho. Just thought I'd give you all another episode to read. |

Pixie, you need to get a horse soon! I had a dream about this thread last night! You posted that you had bought yourself a donkey! He had proven endurance background and was sound in everyway... You said he was absolutely a fantastic beast but it would take you a while to get used to the noise!!!!
Think I'm on this site tooooooo much!!! |

I have made probably about 6 phone calls this week. None of which were suitable.
One definitely had some potential but then the paperwork didn't ring true - so have run away from that one. |

Well Pixie Amanda still has that mare I told you about a while ago who had the sarcoid. She has now had it treated but is yet to be advertised. She is ridden out by all the kids at the yard and Amanda took her to Patchetts dressage about a month ago having not ridden her for ages and certainly not schooled and managed to win the class!! One of the young girls was saying she does get a bit strong when out hacking if she is behind but then she is only 13 and the boy that has been riding her only learnt to ride in October so she can't be that bad! Anyway might be worth looking at you never know. |

I have been following this thread which has made amazing reading. What a saga! I think that I may know the lady whose gelding failed the vetting. If I am right, he is now sold and the purchaser did not have him vetted. |

Pixie, If you send me a message with the lady's name, I will be able to tell you if it's the same horse. Reading your thread, I thought I knew who the owner was and then found out the rest. |

i've now started asking - are you sure its completely sound and does it have a leg in each corner.
This weeks rant - probably not in the right place - but hey. I'm still getting over this one as is my friend.
My friend was sent a horse to school and sort out as has been extremely naughty and a little dangerous to ride. Also not good turned out. Kicking everything else in sight. This was just Monday in fact.
The horse arrives and yes its lame. Not just a bit lame but very lame - proper 2 legged horse. The owners didn't know. My friend rings them and tells them. They ask my friend to organise the vet.
The vet comes. Vet thought its pelvis was probably fractured. Mmmmmm wonder why its been naughty to ride. Its hocks had very bad arthritis, its feet were about 9ft long. Its fetlocks also arthritic and badly turned out. Poor thing. It had already had serveral injections behind 15 months ago. The vet advised euthanasia. Friend rings owners to tell them and see what they want to do. Little horse pts Tuesday. Which she had to organise and sort out. Where were the people???? Has she heard from them since!
OMG outrageous.
People. |

Dear God, that's just unbelievable. Poor little horse and what a horrible thing for your friend to have to sort out. Can't believe they haven't been in touch. Yes they may well be too ashamed but that's no sodding excuse. Amazed in the worst possible way. |

I know - unbelievable. Maybe I'm being harsh and maybe they are too upset. But fancy letting someone else deal with it all for you and someone you don't even know very well. Awful. For all they know the horse may not have been pts and she could have sold it. Obviously she hasn't but there are people out there that would have. Dreadful. |

oh poor little horse... at least it is now in peace and no longer in pain...... Maybe a little cynical of me to say, but goes to show, some people aren't interested unless they can ride it! What happened to being someones best friend and not just a ride!! Awful!! |

Pixie, that's dreadful, poor little horse and poor friend of yours having that situation to deal with. It just beggars belief. I'm sorry but 'maybe being upset' is no excuse for washing your hands of the problem and passing the buck. Yes Kirsty..what did happen to being someones best friend. |

Ive lost count of the mares I have looked at,advertised by complete time wasters, one I travelled 400 miles to view!and when I got there she was so crippled with laminitis, she could hardly walk! Then she had the cheek to put on her advert on AL re advertised due to timewasters! Wonder what vet the people who eventually bought her used, because the local vet that we paid for said right away not to touch her. Today after emailing someone on here whose mare is advertised as 100% hacking,I eventually got her to tell me that she had an old injury and could only be used as a broodmare,,Why didnt she say that in the advert At least she saved me a 4 hour journey! Susan(still loooking!) |
