Hello,
I have been trying for the past year and a bit to put weight and condtion on my little arab mare, tried everything on the market with no luck Some one suggested feeding Maize (i hope i have spelt it wright) and the results are visable in just over a week... The only thing is can any one tell me is maize a feed that makes them exicitable? is it classed as a heating feed?
Thanks

Maize is a 'heating' food and can cause skin reactions.
I would avoid this one if you can!

I can only say that my gelding never caries much weight whatever I fee so I tried maize. Help!!! He became impossible to ride. My ex boss (equine nutritionist) said that I would never make him fat as he would only put it into energy. He has always been well and fit. |

Micronised maize flakes are very good but must always be scalded before feeding. |

The triple crown feeds by Badminton horse feeds are also good at adding weight but are designed to be suitable for fizzy horses as it is oil based so slow relaes energy |

yes equi jewel works a lot quicker than calm and condition as well though can be fed with it no problem, you really see differance in weeks with all over condition
a mare i loaned to breed a foal used to box walk like hell kicking walls down at same time but would scream to come in with the others then throw ultimate wobbler even with yard full in, she was like a whippet so to speak as would do this in then pace fence flat out in field and this was with company (i didnt know this when loaned her until she was covered)
Equi jewel was the only thing that got her weight up and i now use all the time for condition |
