Hi
My filly has a strange almost bald patch. It hasnt got any bigger (or smaller!) and has been there since loosing her winter coat. She only has her headcollar on to be led to and from the field to her stable. It isnt bothering her, I havent seen her rub or scratch it. It is nowhere else on her body. I have seen ringworm before and it doesnt really look like that. Has anyone seen anything similar and what do you recomend (sp) for it?
Here is a pic. Click on it to make it bigger. Its where her face joins her neck!
Thanks Kate

Kate my black mare Nazika has the same, on the stifles, face and behind her elbows...it looks awful the coat is very fine just like Delilah's too! I tried Aloe Vera on it, and it seems to be grwoing back a little, but slowly, possibly worth a go? |

Hi Kate, I would say she has been rubbing. Freddie has a single mark where he has completely rubbed the fur away just above where your filly has hers. We were only saying on the yard this morning that lots of them have their summer coats on their necks and faces, yet seem to have this hairy "strap" mark from their ear, under their chin and up to the other ear - perhaps the last of the coat is getting very itchy?

mine went bald behind his elbows when he was losing his winter coat. and in patches on his back legs too. he also had a random 'hole' under his forelock which has grown back now which i guess he rubbed. it grows back quite quickly tho so i wouldnt worry |

I wouldnt worry about it at all. I have seen a filly this year with the exact same thing and all it is is that she has a very fine coat and slightly sensitive skin and she went bald in places when changing from her winter to summer coat. The hair will grow back! Alethea Aristotle Arabians |

One of mine has done this and the hair is slow coming through as the weather is so hot winter coats have come out before the summer coats are really coming through. My vet has confirmed this. They are rubbing the coat out as it is itching. |

Hi Kate
My mare's were the same a few weeks ago and we had the vet out to have a look who said not to worry about it as it was because the weather has been so warm and they are shedding there winter coat so quickly. One of the filly's had exactly the same area as you filly on the neck, shoulder and down the bum and back legs. The vet said he had a few visits to owners with the same problem.
It will be gone in a few weeks don't worry |
