Dear all
I think I already know the answer to this, but what do you think? I have a Charles Owen J3 jockey skull which I always thought was great, and especially now, as I fell off onto some sharp stones yesterday and hit my head (not first, didn't land on it).
I've looked at the skull and there are some stone chips, but nothing else I can see.
To replace or not to replace, that is the question?

If your hat has taken a bash from a fall...you should always replace- even if you don't think it has been damged....there might be damge not visable to your eye.

Hi Kelly, replace most definately an expense nobody needs but a life saver in the long run, a friend of mine didn't replace her hat as she saw no damage, when she fell of next time the hat had internal damage and damn near killed her! Take no risks is my rule of thumb |

that's what I thought.... damn. I can handle a bruised hip and a very sore rib, but another £80 is really annoying me!
Better that than my head though!

Poor Kelly! That sounds nasty. I've got to replace mine too for the same reason, but havent quite got around to it. I quite fancy one of those 'Troxel' ones in a pretty colour this time around. Tabita (Shah) was wearing one the other day and it looked much less hot than my velvet one. |

I'm sorry I scared you Alison.... if it's any consolation, you didn't sound scared, just curious! I will be back on board just as soon as I can face resting my inner thigh against anything, and when I think my hip might swivel enough to get on and off, lol!
I've had a look at that ENHAP ratings site, and I think I have decided on a Troxel Spirit. As much as I love my Charles Owen (even more now, lol), it was £80, and the Troxel Spirit actually performed better on the crush test according to that site. And at £30, it's far cheaper!
Arachnid, try Ebay, there are loads of pretty coloured Troxel ones!
Thanks everyone! |
