The news is not good this morning about Goldie. He has lost the blood supply to his hoof. I have had to make the decision to have him PTS. He isn't in any pain at the moment and the vets are going to keep him till Thursday as they have forecasted bad weather here for the next couple of days. He is coming home and will be put to rest in one of the pastures.
I can't help blaming myself for his accident as there was a mare in the next paddock in season. He was just trying to do what comes natural. If I'd have been there I would have seen him earlier and maybe he wouldn't have struggled so much.
God I'm going to miss that horse. He is such a character. I only have one mare in foal to him for next year and that's my paint. The other mare he's been running out with for 3 years came back into season yesterday. This is one time when I wished that one of my 2 fillies was a colt. I still have his son but he's not the same.
I will now have to have my other stallion Nazrak tested as I'm beginning to think he's infertile. That means I've bought 2 horses from Canada that are proving to be infertile. Life's a bitch!

Poor, poor Sue, what a brave but very difficult decision. You have obviously made the right one; the only one in these horrible circumstances.
I wish you two more lovely days with your precious boy and much love to you both when you have to say goodbye.
It's something we all dread. You'll be in my thoughts all day on Thursday. Blessings to Goldie. |
