Was mooching round the internet like you do looking at horses for sale when i came across an arab colt for sale for £595 i know from a previous thread the market is not there but putting such a low price on a colt will surely bring problems why dont they just geld him when they say cant keep colts!!!

I know the owner of the colt advertised and I am sure the owner would be very willing to have the colt gelded if a buyer choose that option. The colt is an absolute bargain at that price! He is priced for a quick sale and so that the owner can find him a good home. I am sure he would not be sold to an unworthy person. The colt is nicely bred and he absolutely nothing wrong with him. He would make a great future ridden gelding:) |

Hi all
Again this just shows what alot of us say, too many breedings, and they just end up cheap, also reflects what I have also said which is it's cheaper to buy than breed.

Hi all
Just seen this thread and I have to say I am a little bewildered.
I placed this advert and am wondering how (when the market is so poor) would I sell the colt (on behalf of a very good friend) for a silly price (say £1000+) I think he might be for sale for some time.
The reason for the price of the colt is that we do not keep colts and don't really have the room to geld all our colts and turn them out. We don't ride our arabs so this boy would end up stuck in the field doing nothing for the rest of his life. (not what I would call a good life)
Yes he has a good pedigree and he is a lovley colt and beleive me, he will not be sold to just anybody. I have had a lot of interest in this colt already.
I hope this is not thought of as advertising, I just did not want my theory/horse/price questioned without putting my two penneth in.
If anybody wants to comment to me directly you can call me on 07967 780777 or mail me at emjwood@ntlworld.com |

Sometimes it is advisable to 'run a colt on' until he is 3 years old if you have the facilities. I have in the past seen some stunning geldings and wondered why they were not kept entire, the same for some stallions, there are some you look at and think should have been gelded!
I personally would rather get a great home for my horse with someone that wants to be doing things with them than advertise them at a high price and have them sat in a field doing nothing for what could be months.
Just because a horse is for sale under £1000 does not mean they are not as good as one advertised at £5000. It does depend on the circumstances that the seller is in at the time.
There are some lovely people out there that would like to have their own horse but can't afford to pay the extremely high prices. I am one of them :)) My mare cost me £500 aged 3yrs, the lady was desperate for a good home for her home bred mare due to her personal circumstances. Princess is now internationally qualified, has won championships/reserves, got bronze & silver medals at the Internationals and bred me 3 lovely foals so far (4th one due any day now). This just goes to show that the most expensive is not always the best :)
I am sure that the colt Em has advertised for her friend is lovely and that all they want is a loving home for him. The new owner then has the choice to run him on or geld.

Thanks Mandy!
This colt is too closley related to our other stock to use him.
Whats the point in trying to sell him for a silly price that nobody will pay, he will just stand in the field while he wait for any interest. The price of this colt does not reflect his quality.
Sorry, but some of us are not just in it for the money.

Your welcome Emma :)
Good luck with finding a special home for your friends colt, I'm sure you will not be waiting too long. Perhaps we will see him at a few shows this year with his new owner:) |

If only there were more sensible people like you Emily and it may mean that horses would find good homes a lot quicker especially with the market the way it is. IMO there are still so many overpriced horses out there - and I'm not just talking about Arabs.
I wish you luck in finding your colt a lovely new owner. |
