Just have to share this with you......
On Easter Monday I did my first Hunter Trial with Rohan, my new pony and he was ACE.....actually better than that he was BRILL, FAB, WONDERFUL ansd anything else you can think of. Having walked the course late on Easter Sunday I was feeling rather nervous. There was a couple of tight turns, a few scary fences and worst of all WATER!!
Well, all I can say is 'what was I worrying about?!' We had 2 slight hiccups was at fence 2 where he ranout, it was a scary dog kennel with a broken ground line and light shining through and very narrow but he flew it the second time. I think had it been further round the course he would have just popped it as there were far more scarier things out there and he would have been more focused. After that he flew everything......ditches, trekenahs (sp), pheasant feeders, sharks teeth, banks, drops down, triple combinations...you name it he did it.
He wasn't too keen on the water, he did stop, I tried to push him on but he started reversing which counted as another refusal so I took the easy option of walking in downthe slope, cantering thrugh and jumping out. It meant I was eliminated but you really don;t want to upset Rohan when you're jumping, he can become somewhat strong!!! and plus I'm not certain he has seen water before so I wanted to make it as nice an experience as poss.
I was grinning the whole way round and I felt so confident on him and trusted him completely. I am sure that if we went round again afterwards he would have gone clear. The plan is to hire out the course over the summer and 'play' in the water gradually building up to jumping in and out......It may mean me getting a couple of soakings!!!
The only downsideto the day was that the Official photographer didn't show up and I didn't take a camera!!!!! NOOOOO!
Sorry for rambling!!!

Well done Sarah, sounds like a bit of a marathon!! Plucky horse and it's a great achievement for you both. It's not funny putting a horse at a trakehner (I'll check spelling...) when you NEED to get over it! Please post photos if you get any! |

Roseanne......I've found the right spelling - TREKANER.
Not that difficult really, as it sounds. We were spelling it as in breed of horse not XC fence!!
