We think she started with laminitis because of a combination of things, slight change in haylage, starting work/stress, and trotting on the roads. Don,t get me wrong, my friend is an experienced horsewoman who has always bred her next horse, but this is something she has never had to deal with , ever. I don,t think anyone can take laminitis as seriously as you should ,until you have been in the situation where your horse may or may not survive it THEN you realise what a killer it is. They tried everything, ( my friend is a nurse/midwife) and was very careful with all medication, timing of reshoeing, etc but the pedal bones started to drop fast, and then it was all over. I lost the worlds sweetest sec.D in the same way,( virus caused laminitis)and boy are we careful now.Im just so sorry for my friend , she is a super lady, and a fantastic friend, and Raine was such a stunningly beautiful horse, with a lovely nature and real athletic ability. Will we ever find a treatment /cure for this wretched disease? Polly |
