I have just had a bit of a clearout on all my horsey things and i almost fainted at the amount of numnahs, girths, rugs, bridle bt, bits i have!!! I dread to think how much it all cost and how much of it i actually use. I calculated i have 29 numnahs, 18 girths, 15 different bits, 36 rugs, 6 bridles, and god knows how many spare bits i have the sad fact is i only have 3 horses!!!!! think i need therapy!!

god i forgot about my shetland!!! hes got two rugs, and a £60 equenox cooler (sum 1 shoot me) his own travel kit (little boots hes only 8.2hh) and a flipping jeffries inhand bridle that cost about £80!!! Thankfully my sister bought all of it. I draw the line at buying him a 4ft2 FAL viking ultimate to rug at about £200, she seems detemined to get him one, least im not only one with retail/ compulsive horse buying

Well, for the little mare that came with only the shoes she stood up in...Milly now has three headcollars in webbing, one in leather, an everyday bridle, a show bridle and an in hand bridle...a pony pad ( she was VERY FAT at first!!),a GP saddle, and a show saddle, three girths, two sets of travelling boots, one set of tendon boots, two sets of bandages, two heavyweight turnout rugs, one with neck cover, two lightweight turnout rugs, two show rugs, three of those tea towel rug thingies for wearing after a bath, a neck liner, two stable rugs, one rug liner with neck,a cooling string vest, as I call it, a lunging cavesson and two lunge lines, a bungy thingy ~ dunno what it's properly called, a rubber snaffle, a jointed snaffle and a hanging snaffle, a running martingale (never used), two fly masks, two fly fringes, two sets of grooming equipment, three haynets, two water tubs, four feed bowls,a boredom breaker she never used, a collection of mirrors from when she was alone, three lead ropes and a leather lead rein with brass coupling ~ nearly forgot that!!!...and a LARGE TRUNK!!!!!
Not bad for the poverty sticken little waif that arrived with rubber soled shoes and not a rope to her name!
Actually, it's ironic...quite a few items from that list were given to me by the owner of the late sire of Milly's foal. She wanted Milly to have these things now her boy wasn't there to use them any more.
Always brings a tear to my eyes every time I use one of these things on Milly.
Bless him, he died just weeks after the foal was born.
Dare'nt total what THAT lot's worth ~ even with the gifts!!!

I'm scared now. Too scared to do a check, in fact. Suffice to say that we have a spare Rambo under the guinea-pig's cage to insulate her, a spare Rambo on top to keep the draughts off her, and yet another spare Rambo keeping the frost off the carrots. |

ok - spares can be of use... Think how easy it would be to get another Arab - and hardly have to buy it a thing! Some of you (and you know who you are)are already set up for at least one more horse, surely?!?

Vera.... 37 RUGS! are you mad??!?!? As if they don't cost us enough as it is! All mine have a rug each and each year they go to the rug washer and are washed and mended until they are worn out! I wouldn't even know where to put 37 rugs..... Mind you, I used to have all the gear but now I only have half a bridle and don't even have a saddle. I should ride too, tone up the stomach, hey ho.

I'm sorry - it goes against the grain but I've had to resort to hand me downs and even worse......BORROWED!.
It was quite mild running up to Christmas and Tamba doesn't really like his rug on and tries to take it off. When he really needed it after Christmas I was a bit (I'll be honest - a lot!) distressed to find that his lovely Cosy Foal turn out didn't fit him any more. I thought it might "do" until spring but it won't!
Mind you - he has worn it a whole FOUR times so I suppose he thought he was due for a new rug. Luckily for me we've got ponies on the yard with SPARES and someone kindy lent me one until he stops growing 2 foot a week.
(I hope Sally doesn't see this post. When I took Tamba I said he would have a GOOD HOME. I promise he'll have his very own brand new rugs in all the latest colours WHEN HE'S GROWN)

eeeekkkk!!!!!!!!!
I am not even going to look cos I have to go to work and I would need at least 3 hours to get it all together to count up what I've got. But the stupid thing is no matter how much stuff you have you have never got the things you need! You could have thirty rugs but get another horse or one gets trashed and you are somehow bereft of a replacement??? go figure!!!! |

Bad weather fast approaching. They are predicting -14 here so had to nip out and buy Annie a cosy FAL Saturn stable rug. Lucky for her we have a tck shop in the village. As I write, my sainted friend is scouring the nearest town (I only started driving again this week - Yippee - but don't want to go too far on my own) for a 5'6 Thermatex to put under it to keep her extra cosy. Annie might donate her Horseware stable rug to the guinea pig during the cold snap. Will need to have a rug clear out in the spring......... |

OK - you've shamed me. I've been to ride Away and Tamba now has his OWN, BRAND NEW rug.
Mind you..........it's for when he goes to shows, I've got a size too big because he grows 2 foot a day and it's staying in its bag until Harrogate or Birchinley or whichever come first.
He also has travelling boots and I've got Shire size so I don't have to buy more next year. (Sorry - that reads next week!)
Until SHOWTIME he's going to have to do with borrowed!!!!
I know, I know. I'm not really fit to have an Arab am I.
Vera......are any of your 37 rugs between 5' and 6'..............and if so, do they need looking after for a year or two

Well you see Dennis has 4 Wug+ (light, medium, heavy weights and stable) and 3 Wugs (light, medium and heavy weight) but these rub his mane so I bought a light, medium and heavy Rambo Turnout but the binding edge of these also rub his mane sooooo I had the light one cut back to the shape of one of his Schnieder Stable rugs (he has 5 of those). But this makes it slip to the side so I bought another light one to use instead. Then I thought I'd try Masque rugs, got two of those, 1 stable and 1 turnout but thes slip to the side badly as they are so slippery inside. So now Madeleine has got me a Schneider New Britain sheet from the USA - it's very nice!!!
Before I got the Schnieders (from Madeleine) I got him a light, medium and heavy weight stable rug and a couple of Rambo Insulator rugs too BUT you guessed it - these rub his mane too - hence getting the Schnieders!!!!
The rest is made up from summer sheets, travel rugs (matching sets with boots tail guard etc), wicker, show sheets, day rug, rain sheet and slickers.
But you see I can't get rid of them because I might need one and would really kick myself if I'd sold it!!!
I've only sat on him twice and he already has three bridles!!!! (in addition to his show ones).
Vera and Dennis
PS. Solved the mane rubbing by putting a Wundercover Equine Underwear vest under the rugs - have two of these!!!!! But don't work with the Wugs so he only wear a Wug on a very rainy day. He hasn't even worn the 3 heavy weight ones as it hasn't been cold enough BUT will need them if I ever decide to clip him!!!
