I have finally decided, after much soul searching, although it may be a little early, to take a look and see if there is a special Arab out there for me and my daughter.
I can't settle with the thought of anything other than the right Arab as a long term prospect any more.
I live in Jersey and so it would make sense to plan to go to mainland Britain trying to take in those horses I am interested in during one trip.
I am presently making enquiries about travel as I have found one mare to whom I've taken a serious liking "on paper", but realistically, it would be sensible to look at more than one horse. I'm sure she is all she seems and more, and she is gorgeous, but for one reason and another, we just may not "click" I'm sure everyone will know just what I mean.
Temperament to me is a very important consideration when chosing a horse especially in a family home and it's essential to get a good character match. I'd pass over a more "perfect" body type for one a little less ideal but with a personality I could really build a relationship with.
This is what I can offer a horse:~
Secure, ample grazing, Safe, spacious stabling, Companionship of our kind, sociable mare in and out, The option of in/out living, A home where s/he will be attentively cared for by the whole family(though mainly me and my daughter) and ridden regularly, competing now and then for fun and variety, A lot of love and a permanent situation.
(I've had enough of playing "musical horses" and want to settle down with the Shetlands, our much loved mare and one more Arab for GOOD.)
This is what I'm looking for:~
14.2hh plus as it would be good to have the option to compete in classes other than Arab ones on a "horse"(daughter will have to grow a little but better this way. I want this to be a horse who stays for good.)
A good temperament, being good to catch, box, shoe etc, A "people person" character ~ VERY IMPORTANT. Good health and ability to work as a ridden horse, Good movement, an attractive head and tail carriage and looks are a plus but a nice personality is essential.
I love the Crabbet type but I do not have a fixed idea in my head about breeding ~ although obviously I appreciate a well bred horse,I am definitely not looking for the "Extra Fine" type.
Age ~ ideally 6 to 10... a little more or less for the "right" one ~ but must be "sensible" enough for a 12 year old/teenager to eventually start progressing onto.
In a perfect world ~ a mare would be my first choice and a grey would be the ideal.
Still, I have had lovely geldings in a variety of shades.
No more stallions, however!
Price? Willing to be open minded as I'm not so very sure what a horse of this sort may fetch in the UK. Jersey can be very differen. Let me know!
Does anyone have ~ or know someone who has ~ an Arab meeting this description for sale who may be looking for a home of the sort we can offer?
If I pursue the enquiry about the lovely mare I may want to see, I will be in the Sussex area and thereabouts for a short time in the foreseeable future.
Its not that I'm not ruling out other parts of the country, it's just that it would be good to put visits together if I look at more than one horse or allow for travelling if there is a distance to be covered.
This is a preliminary enquiry but I would truly like to know if anyone might be "out there" for us and would be very interested to hear from you if you have someone looking for a new home.
I'll reply to all correspondence, whether by email:~ wyllow_1@hotmail.com
(thats an underscore between the w and the 1)
or telephone 01534 858908 (evenings)
or letter Nicci Hamilton La Pommeraie La Grande Route de la Cote St Clement JE2 6FP Jersey CI
I've met such lovely people here with such beautiful and well loved horses that you are all my first port of call for advice and information.
Hopefully I will be seeing this beautiful mare as a result of a recent ad on this Arabian Lines site ad section. But again, I'll say that if that were not to work out, the only reason I'm asking about others is that it's a real problem, this travel from Jersey and it is sensible and realistic to maybe see others during the same trip so I do come home having found a horse after the time and trouble taken with flights and so on and not just pin all my hopes on one which is unfair on both sides.
Hoping I may hear something soon!
Nicci

Suyen, bless you ~ your email , well ONE of them, at last showed up in my inbox!!!
I have sent you one back! *crosses fingers and everything else!*
But if all else fails, do feel free to give me a call!
Libby, thank you!
It's an exciting and nerve racking time....and I felt a bit like this when I had my last daughter...you know, "one last time"!
All things being equal, I really do want "The One" I'll never part with...Milly has that status already....but she has to have a friend and my daughter and I have to have a bigger model!
Thank you indeed to those who've got in touch ~ much appreciated.

Suyen, *giggles* I've continued our correspondence as you will see!!
Thank you, Zoe!
Pat,
Thank you so very much for your kind offer and if I do happen to need to travel in that direction, I will gratefully get in touch ~ much appreciated!
Yes, I rather suspect the "right one" will make the fact apparent to me...horses and especially Arabs, as you say, seem to do this almost on first sight.
It's amazing the number of people who will tell the story of how they aquired a horse and come out with the words, "Well, the moment I saw her/him, I knew this was "it"!"
When you're on a bit of a whistle stop tour as I will be, it's just as well!
Again ~ thanks for the continued kindness and consideration of a great group of people with offers of help and advice.
All hugely appreciated.

Nicci,
If you need to come this far North, I can put you up for a few nights. I live near Melrose which is fairly "central" for the North of England and most of Scotland. To give you an idea - Carlisle or Edinburgh 1 hour, Newcastle or Glasgow 1 1/2 hours, North East Fife/Dundee or Lakes 2 hours.
Hope your current possibility clicks and trust your instincts.

I really am stunned by the generosity of the Arab Fraternity ~ you are a great group of people, as I keep saying, but I mean it very sincerely and appreciate it greatly.
Thanks everyone!

Harwood Arabian Stud had a nice grey mare aged rising 7 called Chilone. I did go and try her but I found a two yr old chestnut I liked instead(I pref chestnuts) She was a lovely ride, forward going and super paces (her sister is a show horse) she had bred one foal with no problem she is a rose grey and there is a picture of her on the Harwood website Harwood is in sussex. She was a bit green but hadn't been ridden that much. She was nice natured and well handled. I don't know if you have visited mainland yet maybe this reply is too late (sorry if so) horse may even be sold now, but she was still there a couple of weeks ago. She was £1750+VAT. about 15.2hh. Heather. |

Wow, this is funny Nicci, as I'm just looking for the same :-)
I'm living in Belgium, finally have found a house, a yard and a prairie, and no looking for a mare that could fit in :-)I'm primarly looking for England, as I like the old english & crabbet lines (and also .. ahum... prices for ridden arabs are much lower in England, which makes up with transportation costs ) In England it's still more custom to school an arab under saddle.. and I'm looking for that "special" mare, ridden, preferably out of Crabbet lines (though not a must), a bit higher than you (15hh+, as I'm with my 1m78 considered rather tall), and less old (between 4 - 8) to become also my lifetime companion. To hack out, breed a foal with.. just to enjoy it's company.
I had found a mare that I liked a couple of months ago, but then I was still without a yard. In the meantime I realised their must be more horses like her, and I want to have a look around. I have no color preferences, but as you, Nicci, character is of utmost importance. I'm in search of a traffic safe, sound, kind mare, who likes to be around people. She may show some character, and being of investigationous nature (oops.. spelling) , but must be a reliable horse after all.
If someone reads this, and thinks they have just the mare that could suite me fine, please do not hesitate to contact me :-) It would be idealy within 2 hours from London. I will travel to England by mid march.
thank you all |

I asked for more details, and now there are more pictures of her on the site... funny that you also were intrested in this mare, Heather ! I will definitly go and try her if she still for sale in March |
