Well done Zara. What an achievement for this year. This will no doubt put eventing on the map for a while! Just shows what a lot of hard work and money can do!!

I know she's not short of a bob or two - but she is very talented and her horse Toy Town was a cheap buy and she's worked wonders with him. Obviously being who she is has opened doors for her in terms of sponsorship etc but the bottom line is you have to have the talent, put the work in and have great courage to get to the top in a sport like eventing - not for the faint-hearted!!!
Oh I agree totally with you Sadika. What I mean though is that, even with the talent if there wasn't the financial backing, then she wouldn't be where she is. There are a lot of very talented young riders out there, that will sadly never get to the top levels purely because of lack of finances, which is really sad. Zara has been very luck that her desire to succeed, has only known the limitations of a bank balance. She deserves her win totally and it was heart warming to see an equestrian win the Sports Personality of the Year award.
