Hi
Thanks to everyone who sent me good wishes on Jingo post. For those who dont know I found my gelding Crimson Skye in his stable on Saturday morning with his back leg hanging. The vet was called straight away and we suspected a fractured pelvis. We moved him to the vet hospital yesterday morning and He has had his bone scan and he has definately fractured his pelvis. He has definately fractured the tuber coxae and possibly the ilium we will know more tommorow when he has a ultra sound scan. He has been cross tied since saturday and whatever he has done its going to be a long job. He has gone a bit chesty so we are hoping he won't get a chest infection now as he has weak chest due to having pneumonia when i bought him the cross tieing doesn't help this. We are constructing a crush like area so that he will be able to eat his haylage a bit lower down
the piccie below is of him yesterday morning before he went to the vets we will pen him in this area with wood when he comes home. Him and i make a great pair as i saw the surgeon today and they want to op on the cyst i have on the 22nd dec!!! The nurse said my blood pressure was a bit high I wonder why!! It hasn't been my year i thought i had my share of bad luck when i fractured my ankle in several places and ruined my chances of going to WEG

| sorry to hear your news, can i ask how he did it? Its terrible when they have to be penned in and on box rest but its the best we can do to help them recover. Hope you both get well soon. |

Hi spirit
We do not know how he did it he came in from his field on Friday pm sound and really happy. Saturday am i found him with the fractured leg. There wasn't a mark on his rug. He is stable in a 14ft by 14ft stable with softstall rubber matting which is very soft as it is a matteress with a one piece top cover. He has shavings down as banks and at the back the stable is out of block work and there is only a automatic watere in there which is in the corner a corner manger and a haybar type box. I wish i knew how it happened

Kirsy, so sorry to hear your bad news, my mare Pearl broke her pelvis a few weeks ago, hers sounds simpler than your Skye and she is ambling around a small area now, good luck and hugs to you and Skye  Mandy. |

Hi Mandy
Do you know which part of the pelvis your mare fractured and i'm glad she is doing well. Prim thanks Richard has built a pen for skye this morning so that we can have him only on one rope and able to eat haylage from the ground if you are in the area call in to see him he will need plenty of visitors. I will post pictures later of his new pen. The vets st davids at exeter have been wonderfull and have really looked after him well and kept me informed. Hopefully they will scan this pm or tom morning and they are going to ring me first so I can be there when he is scanned he will then hopefully come home. The physio has seen him this morning to treat the chip he did to his dorsal spinous process a few weeks ago he has certainly been accident prone

Hi Kirsty, I know exactly what you are going through. Thankfully you got him to the vet hospital - it's definitely the best place. You will have bad days but given time the sun will shine again. Take care of yourself, Skye will need you well to look after him through his recovery.

| good luck with the scans we reckon our mare fractured her pelvis last july/august when she fell in the box, and it took her til march this year to return fully sound brought slowly back into work and shes fine back jumping ect and no problems as of yet she even passed a vetting on 29th september. good luck and wishing you the best of news today. the only problem we have encountered as of yet is we can't get her to back up under saddle she would rather throw her self to the ground than step backwards but she will back up on the ground if we ask her. |

Hi Everyone
The news is good he has only fractured the tuber coxae which is non weight bearing. its still going to be a long job but the prognosis is better. He is to have 4 ish weeks box rest folowed by a month led off cons which will be staright after my op so i hope i will be able to ride then ridden work and lots of physio etc piccie below of him in his pen

I'm lucky in that i will be able to do the in hand walking off of Connie i hope yours recovers well also. Pauline yes the prognosis is good but it is going to take a lot of time/dedication/physio to get him right but he is worth it. The quieter wwe can kep him now the better so thats why we have adapted part of the barn for him he is on antibiotics and sputulosin as he has a chest infection which is a side affect of being cross tied (plus he has a weak chest anyway)
