Humph have refused to rejoin AHS - only really joined for the mags and now they have cut those down to 3 per year (plus AL has taken the place of Arab magazines for me) I just didn't feel that the society was providing me with any worthwile service and I can get a more relevant insurance policy myself. Am a member of my local group though. I also think that there has been alot of turmoil and in fighting within the society and that there needs to be a bit of a rethink before they can start attracting back lost members. |

I understand where you are coming from, and there has been money wasted I BELIEVE??? in the past or so I am told. The belt has certainly been drawn in, like any business needs when the going gets tough.
But where do we run to????? if we have questions, registrations, showing, rules, etc, the list is endless.
I beleive the magazine is a bonus, even 3 times a year. Val spoilt us didnt she with 6, we sat on our laurels, taking it for granted..... Well I did.
Any membership is valued at what you take out, it could be nothing, a little, or a lot. Whatever the peaples circumstances needed for that society.
What is the membership per year in terms of a sacrifice to us??? A couple of good meals out, 5/6 bottles of wine, not even the cost of a set of shoes for our horses. Why do we have to get 'our monies worth' so to speak?
To keep our society going we need members to pay their membership and do our bit to get the ahs back to being a good going concern. This means giving, as well as taking, and I dont mean money. To promote the arab horse, firstly at local level, we need to go out and use/show our horses to the general horse public. Another way is to help your local group!!! They work hard, and more often than not at their own expense, why?? because they enjoy it and want to be involved.
Personally I have used the ahs for advice, passports, transfers, a registration I think?? and the national show. For the advice bit, I am not sure where else I could have gone.!!
We need the ahs for the arab horse in my opinion.
These are my views only, no doubt we will differ.
I am happy to pay my subs, if only to attend the national show and being able to get the advice I have needed in the past.

I think both Societies do a superb job for the benefit of horses and horse folk.

I think I was most upset by the AHS withdrawing their sponsorship of HOYS classes and we very nearly lost those classes altogether - would have been such a shame for all of us and Susan George who did so much to get Arabs back at HOYS. JMO but i feel that local group and Arabian Lines fulfill all my needs so no need for AHS!! |
