Hi Debbie, Karen here, just seen your question re shedding of frogs. This is a natural occurance, most people hardly notice and they can shed the skin in small pieces or frog shaped layers. Usualy your farrier will dress the foot and tidy that up at the same time which is maybe why you maybe had not noticed before, but sometimes they shed in between visits. Its not to be worried about, BUT split heels ARE definatly to be worried about and farrier advice sought Best of luck and you have absoloutly done the right thing in asking everyone. ps if you are against shoes to correct "possible" cleft heels, would you consider surgical shoing or glue on shoes which do not invade the horn of the hoof. Just an idea? Temporary shoing till problem is corrected? Do let us all know how you do as we can all learn too!
