I've just had an email from the UK from someone wanting a black or chestnut mare for endurance. The email address for a response is kim.falconer@optimaxuk.co.uk I thought that some of you might be able to help. Liz Salmon

Lizzie, no luck, but I have a polka-dotted one ! Just a thought, IF it gets hot - wouldn't a very dark coloured horse be more miserable during an endurance ride than a light one ? Why would you want to absorb more heat ? Not trying to be sarcastic, but I'm seriously scratching my head over this one...... Have fun in Paris, I warned them you are baaaaaaaaaaaack !

Hi Christine, I don't think in the UK the heat is a factor 99% of the time-—do you ?!!! Even, when I watched the 80 mile ride in Qatar, the darker coloured horses didn't seem to have a problem. Liz

Interesting point Christine, i do know that studies have been done which show that black cows DO feel the heat and have the resultant side effects more than paler coloured cows...perhaps it is a question which the buyer hadnt thought about? Hope you and Dick are both well, guess it will be quite a lot warmer for you this xmas than all the ones up north over here!!! suyen. |

Dear suyen, TEXAS weather?! Last Friday it was in the high 80tis, within 4 hours, a "blue northern" decided to come down from Canada and grace us with a visit, 46', and the next morning 28', I was out at 2am with a hammer, braking up the ice for the "kids"....
Very common miss-conception, that it doesn't get cold here. Texas is the land of extremes - in more ways than one !
If you find that publication, please forward it to me ? Next time it gets over 80, I do,what I always do - change into something lighter in color and feel better. Cheers, Christine.

but the nice thing about the Texas weather is it only lasts a couple of days not 11 months like in England.

Yes Sue, in Texas from mid April to mid October, you can put shorts on in the morning every day all day. We have about 2 months of real winter, but even then the temperature bounces around from freezing to 20+C. Rarely do we go for more than 3 days without seeing the sun. We do however get tornadoes in the spring and autumn, as well as flash flooding. Liz Salmon
