I used to do hunting, showjumping and hunter trials with my purebred gelding but he is more or less retired from competition now. |

Oh yes they do! Over the years I have ridden at national level many purebred ridden arabs, and BSPS (purebred!! - plaited up in disguise!)show-jumped, dressage, distance rides - I admit I haven't hunted a purebred BUT was National Hi-Point Western Champion at Malvern and still ride out Western-style many miles each week with Dahookah ( between us we have a combined age of over 70!!) I have just started my 3-year-old purebred gelding who is an absolute darling and I hope he will keep me going into my retirement - or whatever comes next!!
I have always said "whatever you want to do - you can do it with an arab!"

Does intending to do count?!!!
I intend to dispell many myths about Arabs with Dennis.
With Perissa we had a go a most things apart from anything that included jumping. ME not her don't do jumping!!!

I had a purebred gelding (he was crabbet breeding) and he did affiliated showjumping, crosscountry, dressage. ridden showing and inhand. he was the first arab that qualified for the scope festival of showjumping at staffordshire as far as i am aware. I sold him a couple of years ago to a friend of mine but i still see him and i have had him stay with me several times. He has had a year of and now is back in work and going cross country soon.

I think the moral of this story is from the Arab's point of view "Anything you can you I can do Better!" |

On our local circuit everyone breathed a sigh of relief when one big chestnut crabbet bred gelding retired from jumping at 22. The other breeds were then in with a chance of a red rosette. He was so laid back and jumped for fun. 'point and go'. He had been bought newly gelded as a 7 year old, but they never bothered to follow up his history. It would have been intersting to see if he had any offspring that inherited his flair.
One of mine is a Legend of Europe granddaughter, and she jumps loose, (unbroken brood mare) he was a noted jumper in his day.

I have a friend who not only did showing both in-hand and ridden on his pure bred mare, but also show jumped, hunted, and drove her with great success at the highest level. Arabs can do anything! Lynda |

I've show jumped our pure bred stallion and some of the mares, did racing on my old gelding, including hunting him and doing bronze buckle endurance rides to get him fit,my mothers part bred ( 7/8 arab ) jumped affiliated, newcomers and foxhunter. In the foxhunter she came 7th out of 70 competing that day! She was one hell of a horse, basically they will do anything asked of them within reason. The only thing she was hopless at was pony club games because it was far too exciting for her. |

Hi Kizzy Our foundation mare, Mirabelle, has done Elementary Dressage and a little jumping. Her full sister, Minuette, has also done some jumping, but is being taken back to Western, after weaning. Our gelding is ridden, but has not jumped yet, as is our veteran, Ferzons Lace (25 SOON!). Mostly, we show in-hand. Our 2 colts are going to Poland at the end of 2005 for race training and a season or two of racing and then will stand at stud on their return, as well as being shown in-hand. People say that 'scatty Arabs' can't do anything, but if you are prepared to do it, so can Arabs!! Look at the pix of Kordelas on another website being taught reining and spinning - I have seen him doing it in person - breathtaking and totally amazing! Liz Downes

Hi Liz, That's great - what is Minuette doing - has she done western, please tell us more. Have we seen her at Malvern? Also which site is Kordelas on re: reining - I love that horse, and would love to see him working. Western is an amazing discipline for arabs, being they are so pretty( for the outfits & tack!) and obedient. The latest WES News mag. has a great photo of an arab on the front cover - Greenway Tarim and Nita Osbourne, anyone know where they are based?
