That's a bit harsh, as you said, you've only just started to learn. A bit of encouragement and an explanation of how to improve would be much more helpful.

I've always wanted to learn Western. Apart from the annoyed instructor, how have you found it?

Find someone else! I've only had one person teach me western whose attitude I didn't like. I wasn't going to give her any more of my money! A good trainer should encourage, encourage, encourage We had a group all day clinic by a seriously high level French lady. She was amazingly patient, lent us various bits of tack for the day, rode everyone's horses and taught us how to do one thing properly through a variety of exs. Even the very nervous girl was riding her little arab around with confidence. It is very hard work getting the proper engagement with loose reins but thanks to Noamie I have made a start.

Hope you stick with it

What a shame that you didn,t enjoy it, they should be offering you help and encouragement not making you feel like crap. Is there anybody else you can go to instead, shame to stop going if you enjoy it .

No "teacher" should get annoyed especially on a 2nd lesson. It must be like learning a new language for you having ridden "English" up to now especially if riding your own "English" horse.
I wouldn't go again and pay anybody that got annoyed with me. Remember you are dong this to ENJOY and LEARN.

Of course you ride English, what a silly thing to say.
Who did you go to? My horses and I could probably teach you better. Hope you have a better experience next time. And remember, western riding is relaxed and fun!! At least that has always been my experience.

Thanks for your encouragement, but I shan't be going to her again, and that makes me a little sad but like cmj said I am not going to pay someone to talk to me like that, I would still like to have ago at it. And I was thinking about getting a lovely western saddle. The lady that has the teacher at her yard is really nice and the people are really nice, the teacher is really nice to everyone except me, it's like, well she just dislikes me. It reminds me of when I was at school doing pottery, the teacher just did not think I was serous in doing it and asked me to not come again, when in fact it could not have been farther from the truth.

Quarabian may be I should come over to you for the day

I have done a little western in the past but took my young horse to Bruce Lawrence for a lesson last week. He couldn't have been more patient and understanding about training a hot headed horse and fairly nervous rider. The riders waiting for the next group lesson were very, very friendly and we are joining in the group lesson next week. Change your teacher if you can, you have just been very unlucky.
