I think Facebook is taking over, the Danish Forum died but that was due to the admin removing classifieds for a while, and nearly everybody used to log on daily to see if something was on there, now nobody uses the forum at all and admin is desperately trying to get it going again via Facebook however with no luck looking at the forums last posts. |

As a very reluctant "Facebooker". I only go on occasionally and then it is usually only to catch up with my daughter who is on a yacht in the San Blas Islands and doesn't always have access to email, phone etc and when she does she puts photos on facebook so I can keep up to date with where she and what she is doing.
Be very sad if this forum folded due to Facebook.

There are so many reasons to keep this forum going!
The wealth of knowledge (others - not mine!), the ability to search past topics, the community spirit (think Buffy), the fact it is a much pleasanter format to read among many others.
I don't start many topics these days, mainly coz all is doom and gloom here at the moment but I do try contribute to others posts if I have anything remotely intelligent to say!
I love to hear others news and achievements and that includes everything, nothing too big or small, from winning HOYS to achieving right lead in canter, especially if the posts include photos
So come on all you lurkers, I'm sure everyone of you has at least one valuable, funny or interesting story to share..... |

I so agree, I have had so much support and advice. Could bore you all to death with my boy but will continue to post the daft things he does. Tonight out and about he had to be " encouraged" over scrape marks on Tarmac that were life threatening; Valegro would have been proud of his sideways moves lol. My hacking pal scores his "moves" out of ten, it was only a 5 and I lose all points if I come off lol. Then passed numerous wheelie bins with add on sacks and rubbish without a care and did all the gate opening duties. Reliable but daft is my boy

To put your minds at rest regards FB we have NO intention of letting the Arabian Lines forum pop its clogs. Quietly in the backgound for the last couple of years we have been working on new ideas and projects that we are wanting to share with you all very soon. Watch this space ! Soon we will be asking for " Beta Testers " and people that would like to contribute.
We care about the forum, our members and intend to be around for a long time.

Think most of us are on facebook?
Also, I find that if you put a post up and you don't get many replies, you think that maybe people aren't interested so don't post as often - don't want to bore people?
I enjoy it on here but don't have as much to post about now we have lost Rosie, sold Bertie and don't want to bore people with Connors antics . I need to buy another Arab |

Gret to hear, Paula. i would really miss this forum and the people on it. Most of them I will never meet but they will be "forum friends" and I sat next to another member at Malvern this year. She knew who I was afterwards as I posted on here about the books I had bought despite promising myself that I would not buy any this year as I already had far too many!

I have an icon on my pc so I can click once and go straight to ALines. If I need facebook I have to go to log in to internet, go to emails and then find a facebook email to click on as it remembers my password. When I get there I can find the same entry on many of the groups I look at. Some groups are closed so you can't see anything. You have to move from one to another and then go through entry after entry to find things you have been told about. I sent a message offering to sponsor a Crabbet class - no reply, another about loaning a horse - no reply. ALines is so much better. You know where to look for things and get to know the people who post. |

Glad to read that Paula, it would be dreadful to lose AL, I also think that it is more active than it appears - although there are far less posts at the moment, you only have to look at how many times posts are read to know that a lot of people are reading the posts, even if they are not commenting on them. As I said on another thread, I have reluctantly been drawn into Facebook, but I agree with Ziamadora, AL is so much better |

I spend more time than I should on Facebook, which is rather addictive unfortunately. As I said on a similar thread,I post here when I have something to say,I find that people are posting less and there are less threads,of course if we post less we can't complain there are less posts I am glad to read AL isn't going to disappear and can't wait to see the new ideas and projects. What about an easier way to post pictures? That would help a lot,it is one of the reasons why many prefer Facebook…. I learned a lot about arabs here, made some friends,a few enemies had a small "divorce"for a while, came back….it even helped me to get Armos as Rhoni found an old advert from his first owner and it was talking to him that convinced me he was the right horse for me and to go and see him… So Aliners, don't just lurk, but post, post, post! |

Glad to hear that there are new projects Paula, I don't have a huge amount of spare time and as I have a business page on FB I tend to be on there looking after it.
I also think the posting of pics as Pasch mentioned is a real issue for those of us who are not technically gifted it's just so quick and easy on FB, I can do it but it's a pain in comparison.
I much prefer AL to FB as its not transitory, I do miss the intelligent debates however, whether I agreed or not, there is very little of that now.
Really looking forward to the new ideas, when will you be launching ?

I was thinking how quiet it was on here the other day, I googled something and an old thread came up on here so I clicked on and thought what a great response it had got compared to what we get today, where have all those old members gone I think its such a shame it used to be such a busy forum, although even the big H & H forum has been quieter the last few weeks so maybe its just the sign of the times, I dontdon'tFacebook cant stand it and wont give in and join even though everyone I know pesters me about joining I just wont.
I have also noticed lots of people read the posts but dont comment obviously lurkers are of plenty such a shame. |

I am glad to read that Paula. I also don't have face book and normally take a look in a hurry as life is so busy but Arabian Lines is a friend and it would be very sad to see it go!
I wonder how many endurance people are regular Aliners? It would be so wonderful to get some sort of regulated/rewarding breeding system of the Arabian breed for endurance in this country - something similar to France? I don't know how it could be achieved and funding would have to be found but it would be good to discuss. |

I love AL and will not 'do' Facebook. Agree about posting pics as I find it impossible so tend not post about my small achievements as people love photos to go with the post.
The support and advice from fellow Arab owners is invaluable when you are surrounded by cobs! Can I also say - Rosie, we would never be bored by Connor's antics he is stunning and a true ambassador of his breed. |

We have never had sponsors or backers, Rui programs our forum and keeps it running smoothly for us all, our moderators keep the peace and I try to keep ontop of updating the rest of the site by hand ( nothing is automated unfortunately ). Putting ideas and implimenting things do take longer than i would like. As you all know any major change as with any site/business costs big bucks which we do not have, AL has never been about making money off every page ( 10+ gig site with over 432,000 indexed pages on google ) but it does help when you need to make things hppen. Some of the things in the pipeline are being funded by my savings other ideas hopefully can be implimented without having to call in outside help.
So now is a good time if you want us to look into any ideas you guys would like to see implimented on AL. Throw any suggestions / wants this way and we will see what we can do

Is there any way that it could be possible to post photos as easily as on FB? We used to see lots of posts and pics of what people had been doing at competitions etc.
Good news that there is no chance of AL disappearing! |

I think also FB allows us to advertise horses and tack for sale for free. Also people that post on FB are not so anonymous , where on here we just have a user name. I use to love posting on here, but the posting of photos is just too messy, so I don't bother. That's a shame because I have a lot to tell about my Crabbet, Crystal Heartbeat, with photos. Also, I have shied away because of the dreadful rows that sometimes erupt on a thread.....generally one that is about neglect and abuse. It use to be so much more light hearted....'show us your two year olds'....'show us your Crabbets' type of thread. There would be pages of answers and photos. I would look forward to Arabianlines being more 'open' and not so clicky. Whoops better now! |

FB freebie advertising, all well and good but impossible for AL - how would we pay for the 10+gig webspace, the domain names, the extra storage , backups etc. Over 90% of AL is free, making the whole site free would just put an end to the whole AL site, as i said in a previous post, any new things are coming out of my own personal savings as we have no sponsors adding to the kitty. ( and no one wants to pay for a subscription based site )
Some of the new ideas - hopefully will alleviate the " clicky feel " as we are not about pigeonholing horse/lovers owners to Arabian/Cob/Shetland etc etc, this site was meant and still is meant for all those that LOVE Arabians and LOVE Horses.
We do moderate our forum, we try hard to keep conversations pleasant, meaningful and avoid the nastyness that can occur on places like FB. No trolls on AL please!. If you want to know who a person is, check their profile we go to great lenghts to ensure the people here are REAL and not " Alts up to no good ".
PHOTOS -- we are going to add a better way of uploading photos to the site and i am presently trying to find cheaper storage for same ( yes every photo uploaded to AL will be on AL storage so adding to the cost of running the site ) Your Calls have been heard and we will be addressing the Photo issues.
ANY MORE IDEAS ?? Keep them coming.

As most of you probably know I am a striaght Egyptian fan and on another site which sadly folded due to consistent hacking they had a thread where we put up photos of our horses for helpful critique on conformation. I t was very good and the comments were almost all helpful and polite.
A forum for bloodlines, conformation and traits of certain lines would be good where we could look at serious issues. My "nettle picking" thread was good as it hopefully got people picking and also possibly those with laminitics using nettles as a "herbal" help but is not in the same league as discussions on bloodlines, conformation etc.

Unfortunately we lost a lot when we lost egbert. Her threads seemed to always be interesting and informative. I know there are a lot of very knowledgeable people on here but they seem to be far more wary of giving opinions. One day I hope to be able to breed the next generation from my boy and would love to know more about different bloodlines, especially personality and temperament as baby would become a family member. |
