That time of year, we sort through the bags and look for the cleanest rug to put on the ponios...
Well my mum did at any rate! Splash is rugged because she gets cold backed and since her broken back, we take extra care with her.
Freya is nekkid. She will remain nekkid until the turn around occurs and they come in at night - Mid November. She's hairy enough and ugly enough to rough it out!!
So anyway.
I have 16 rugs in total. For Freya.
16... Ranging from 4'9 which was her first size when I bought her... To 5'9, which is what she is now. Most common rug is the Amigo, and the Rambo... And the Fal Pro coming third. RIDICULOUS!! I've only had her a year and a bit!!
Who else has millions of rugs for one horse???? Or who only has one of each. 1x LW, 1x MW, 1x HW and 1x Stable?? And what 'breeds' of rugs are preferred? xxx

I have over 30 for ONE horse!!!
How - my last horse I owned from 1991 and she was the same rug size as Kes, since buying Kes 2 years ago I have accrued more.
I have chucked out about 5 in the last few years but I have pretty much every type ranging from coolers, show rugs, turnouts, stable rugs, waffles. In my garage I still have original Jute and New Zealand rugs, but I don't use them anymore, I think they are now called antique rugs!!! |

Oh god, that's fantastic! I'll admit, Freya doesn't have one new stable rug... I've got an original 'Pony Snug' - I've not even heard of them before!! And original New Zealand turnouts. Think the only brand new rugs Freya has are her 5'6 medium, heavy and lightweights. The rest were, uh.. Cheap buys off ebay. But they're so lovely!! And far warmer than these new fangled ruglets!! xxx |

So this isn't normal!
We should do a rug exchange on any rugs we don't use (I could do with a 4ft9)and have lots of bigger rugs, I would need to have a sort out though. |

I have loads of 5"9 and 6" as my last horse was those sizes and still have some of hers and so is Arabi, I have quite a few 6"6 now too for the big girl, I went to a equine car boot the other week and got some real bargains, I love rugs cant stop buying them I bought an exercise rug off ebay this week its a lovely rambo newmarket stripe we will look very posh this winter.
We should ask admin if we could have a kind of swap shop kind of of thing for rugs and bits I have some things I could list.
Admin is this something we could do or is it not allowed |

I think the less horses you have the more rugs :)
I had 30 something for Hunter when I just had him, but I probably have that now for the hole gang. |

I'll take a photo of our shed at home later and put it up... It's mine and mum's tack shop, but we own everything in it. I have a fair number of rugs and bits... And tonnes of other stuff I'd be more than happy to swap etc. xxx |

Lily and Buzz have about 10 rugs each (including verious thickness of cooler, fly rugs etc. etc., both owning two each that you can add and remove liners and different weights of neck...Then there is the further two brand new 'spare' medium combo turnouts that I have for emergencies in the garage, plus the wheelie bin full of older spares....Ok I have about 30 rugs too, then there are the other four family horses and their rug collections....plus the emergency spares for them...Frankly I dread to think just how many we have. I would like to make it clear though, that I have not paid full price for any of them. Does that make it any better??? I also have some that are 19 years old.... I only throw them out when they are ripped beyond repair.
Brand names:- Mark Todd, weatherbeeta, Fal, Bucas, Premier Equine, Derby House, Amigo, Rambo, Aerborn, 2 x Chaskits (brilliant rugs, last forever, if only I had a neckpiece for them). |

I dont know how many rugs Ive got. I did get rid of some a few years ago and Im selling off a few of Velvs inc a couple of fals as they are too small for storm. i am hanging onto a couple of fals, couple of stables and a cooler.....just in case I get another! Next horse I plan to get will be smaller. Fals are so good I cant bear to part with all of them as they are the originals. Storms wardrobe is slowly building up. |

Mine have a mw and a hw and a cooler and that is it. Can't be doing with lots of 'stuff'. The big horse's stable rug is hanging up in the chicken run as a draught excluder
I still have a rug from 1979 - it has been cut down for a foal rug but still 'as new'. I have packed away my dear old boys' rugs ready for the day when I find their successor - hard enough to find the next horse of a lifetime without insisting that s/he fits a 5ft 9ins |

Hi all, We have just had a sort out of rugs asnd then decided to but another feed bin to store them in... lol. How CAN one horse have so many rugs. 3 HW turnout, 4 HW stable, 3 MW turnout, 2 MW stable, 4 rain sheets, 2 LW tunout, 2 LW stable, coolers, travel rugs etc etc. 5 rugs not being used, 8 rugs for the miniature, travel rugs for show pony not even been shown. Perhaps Im a little bit addicted. The three mares arent rugged day or night though....

Badders - I bought another stable rug yesterday. I feel bad. But You never know when you might need 22 rugs!! What if an elephant got chilly and you needed to cover him up? Those rugs would be perfect for the job! I'm just super prepared. And all this for the pony I'm not even rugging this year! Eugh. xx |

I was doing well with downsizing my rug collection by finding good homes for all my old lady's sadly no longer needed amigo wardrobe. Then I have a try on day and discover I can't squeeze Ari into his 6ft rugs. He is 10 yrs old and its not fat believe me, Arabs really do broaden and develop in the neck and shoulder long after other breeds. He only ever has light and medium weight as never clipped but here I am buying rugs again! |

Offira, it does happen, the mare I had for 20 years was a 5'9" the same as Kes, the only downside from Kes' point of view is that he did inherit some pink/ pink pattern rugs |
