I would like to introduce you to Amir, Sire Silva Dollar and Dame HT Helayna. His was backed over a year ago but due to lack of time has not had anything further done with him. His owner therefore came to the decision to place him on loan, a decision not undertaken lightly as she breed him herself and will miss him immensely.

Since first going to see Amir, and bringing him down to join my two, his owner's circumstances have sadly changed, and I been given the opportunity to own him permanently.

He has a lovely nature and very brave, unlike my mare Kali who is frightened of her own shadow, ( literally lol)although I wouldn't change her one little bit.
We have just started to re-back Amir and he is taking to it like a duck to water, apart from the bit which he doesn't like one little iota. However it is still early days yet and I am certain, with time and patience, he will come to accept it and if he doesn't then we will venture down the bitless route.

I hope you like the pictures of the boy himself.

Aghhhhh lovely boy.

I like that you do exactly what I do, bit in, but a rope on a headcollar too. No nasty surprises!

Unfortunately that is not me on him. It's young Gemma who rides and is taking my little grey gelding on loan. I only wish I was her age and as supple but alas lol. I felt I was better on the ground to start with in case anything went wrong as I don't think Gemma would be able to hanle him. I am doing the lunging and long reining and will get on him hopefully by next week once he responds more

I hope to start endurance with him next year, although I will need to split my self in two as Kali also loves endurance.

Any how I think there is a chance he will grey out and I and quite excited to see how he changes.

Oh and I meant to say thank you for all your lovely comments, I feel very privileged to be given the chance of loaning this lovely boy. There is only one think and that is he has a number of sarcoids which have unsuccessfully been treated one of the reasons I think Karen didn't want to advise him for sale.

There is a lot of information on here about sarcoids. My advice is that if Liverpool Uni haven't been consulted already they are the experts. My boy had a sarcoid on his face and I went down vet and Liverpool route now successfully treated 3 yrs on. Sarcoids are on the increase but a good horse with sarcoids is still a grand horse. A horse with poor conformation or nature and poor work ethic will always be the same. Enjoy Amir he's lovely

Sarcoids are not the end of the world,my mare started with them when she was 4 years old and has had a total of 7 removed she had one little one on the inside of her leg which grew a little bit over last year and I have only just noticed this month that it has gone on its own.Hopefully she has grown out of them.

So agree Silver there are worse things a horse can have than sarcoids! My vet was very positive, and yes I am aware they can be nasty but that is worst case scenario in horses that maybe have compromised immune defence. My boy got only one flat type very young and I do think his immune system has clicked in no more age 10.

Also agree that sarcoids are something that can be lived with - Lily developed 5 as a 4 year old, went down the Liverpool cream route, and all gone except for one (a couple without treatment). They are the flat variety, and no more have developed in the last 4 years. I keep an eye on the remaining one (which has resisted 4 courses of Liverpool cream, but has decreased in size), and plan to try a course of Thuja cream and tablets when I get home to see if that has any results. It doesn't interfere with her endurance career.

I remember Karen when she done endurance on his mum HT Heleyna. She chose the same stallion "Silva Dollar" that I had previously used on my mare. Interestingly, my 8 year old boy developed a horrid sarcoid around the age of 4 years too! Wonder if it's pure coincidence or something inherited? My mare never had sarcoids and neither did Karen's HT Heleyna as far as I'm aware.

Wishing you every happiness with Amir and hope to see out competing at some point

They have already been treated with the Liverpool cream, but it wasn't successful. However Karen said they have remained static for over three years, so will leave alone whilst they remain like that. They certainly don't put me off any. I am not sure how they would be looked on though if I did some local showing however. It will only be to get hum out and about anyway.
