So wish I had my own place and could help. These poor ponies are so cheap but its not the buying of them it's the expense of looking after them properly that makes me unable to help. Feel very sad, people should breed to demand and then to good homes only. I know that' the ideal but far from easy to achieve.
Alison I just saw the sale online. I always get the York Catalogue Some went unsold and I would imagine they went back home with their breeder, but it is the ones bought by the travellers who will probably go to Holmfirth today. If enough people who thought that they would never be able to afford one of these ponies, and so did not go to York yesterday look for them tomorrow I am sure that they can find homes. It was not just these ponies, but prices were low yesterday as I know someone who took 3 cob youngsters to sell.
YO's husband was at the sale yesterday (not buying horses) and he heard on the grapevine that the owner now wants the remaining horses taking to Wales. Bear in mind that is only gossip that I'm repeating and may or may not be true and even if it is, there's nothing to say she'll get them there. I'm not up on all the horse sale venues so I don't know what 'taking to Wales' actually means, but I'm sure some of you will.
There were 3 at Holmfirth today, brought by a traveller who actually made sure they had a drink and some hay. grey YO filly around 12,2 and a red and white mini in foal and a black mini in foal. I watched the grey go through and she did not sell. I asked him about her and he was asking 250.
This is just so sad, those poor ponies we currently have a young rescue filly at our yard and we are all sharing the looking after. She is a lovely 12.2hh grey welsh filly, she's been here about 18 months now so I guess she will just stay in the herd now. Really hope these lovely ponies end up in good homes.
I am hoping that as there were only 3 at Holmfirth this is a good sign, very sad and stressful for the poor things though being boxed round from sale to sale, but at least he had taken them hay and water.
I read the catalogue, I don't really know why. I abandoned a number of posts to share my thoughts, I know why, because they were sad. I just could not help mentally tagging them as I went thru the list, those who had a good chance and those who has a small chance, or none. I wanted the ones who had none. I wish I hadn't read it. I wish horses didn't have to go thru that sort of stuff. I wish ......
I have two, I managed to obtain a couple of the rarer lines and I wanted the two older purebred mares. I have no idea where they went. One was Kaden Jehan Wirtha the other Darkhorse Quaramir. Does anyone know if they were sold or are safe? Crying shame, they are a rare breed.
