I agree that 20 isn't old for an arab, but I suppose that being in foal isn't helping her find a home for her, unless the buyer coincidentally wants a Shagya/TB cross foal. I would have thought this was going to hurt her chances of finding a "forever" home.....but fingers crossed! She sounds such a nice mare. |

Well, I would love her. She would be perfect for my daughter and I would not mind the baby. However.. I have spent all my money on rugs lately, and she is too far away. :( |

Perhaps he is just looking for a good home due to change of circumstances and doesn't want to advertise free because it can attract the wrong people? someone should phone, eh Martha lovvvl. |

Well, I already have a cushings horse requiring constant trickle feeding and specialised hoof care, a declared rearer with sarcoids (admittedly neither rearing nor sarcoids are in evidence now) and another horse that you have to place on forced marches and give haynets with TINY holes in order to keep her weight in check, so why wouldn't I want a 20 year old (and for me giant at 15.3 hand) shagya mare in foal to an unknown TB stallion? I mean, that makes perfect sense. Of course....now, why didn't I think of that? Especially, as I've never foaled a mare. Hmmmm....
All kidding aside, it would make a great book and I do like writing about horses. But maybe I am totally wrong here anyway and perhaps this mare being in foal makes her quite popular with those breeding performance horses....who knows. Let's see what happens with the old girl. |

I have an 18 year old and don't consider her 'old' at all. I agree it's not ideal that this mare is for sale in foal, her main selling point seems to be as a safe riding horse. I would love an Arab mare her height who is a safe ride in traffic but forward going, not many of these come up or sale at any age!
However, her owner could have been made redundant or be facing some other life changing event not of their choosing. At the end of the day better to sell the mare and hope she gets a decent home than keep her if they are not able to provide adequate feed and veterinary care for an in foal mare so that she appears on here as a rescue case. There have been too many cases of neglect lately to make me judge someone who may be trying to do the best thing for their horse. It's just very sad all round. |

Okay, okay, but it seems to me that the horse was flown all over the world and was a massive success as an endurance horse and one would have thought given the tens of thousands it takes to compete at that level that previous owners would be interested. I am just flagging it up in hope to help..... |

If I wanted another horse I would have her, she,s been there and done it, for me it would be a special extra to have a baby as well.
But my 4yo is away being worked and ridden on, my 18yo is being her self and my 2yo is an excellent companion.
I would have to get rid of one the them!!
I love the 4yo, but is she going to be to much for me!!, the 18yo well nobody would want a moody mare and this is her last home, and the 2yo is not every ones horse!!
So unless a miracle happens I cant help!!!
Also the lady that is working my 4yo is trying to get me to take one of her,s as well!!
I wish I could have them all, but I think my husband would not be happy with it. |

Well, my oldie is safe in the field. She is invaluable to me as she has supervised my FTAGH TB filly from 2 to 4, ready to be restarted this spring. Hopefully this filly will have forgotten she was a racehorse, and picked up on Zarellos good points. like always coming when caught, a collected canter that has made onlookers cry, never bucking and standing nicely for the farrier, and being groomed, but not the parts where you leap 80 miles an hour sideways if you see a leaf out of place on a hedge, take the opportunity to push annoying children into waterbuts and refuse to even acknowledge anything that is not either arabian or thoroughbred as they are just not worth talking to. |

Surprised that this 20 year old arab mare is close to me in Devon- Paignton area- Really do not need another horse- or one that is in foal [even a bargain like this] - but it is so sad that she seems to have been passed around. Messaged the seller asking details of the TB sire of the foal she is expecting and was told that the stallion was owned until recently by the seller and that his sire [ so grandsire of potential foal ] is Notnowcato- stands at £5K. Have posted details on SW endurance site in the hope that someone will give this mare a good and forever home. http://www.lts-uk.com/notnowcato_main.html
If any AL's would like me to take a look at -and photos/video of this mare PM me as I have time to help if anyone is too far/busy to do a reccie themselves......

Thanks for the additional information Freya. I have found the stallion who is the sire of the foal to be, he was also on Preloved and whilst he is rather lovely and I like the look of him, he is only 3 and unproven. If you google "thoroughbred stallion paignton notnowcato" and then go to the cached version his ad is there.
Do you know when the foal is due? |

That is probably the sire at the new owner's place - Georgia Symonds posted 3 videos of him on You Tube- but may not be in Devon. I certainly don't have that grass... Horse looks chilled- even bored - yawns at end of one video ! - but yes a youngster though seems a nice type. |

Don't know when foal is due.- Anyone interested could call the number that's on the H&H ad. Really hope this has a good outcome for a lovely old mare ; she deserves a good, knowledgeable home.

I'd love a horse like this but am so flat out with what I have....I'm going to keep my eye out for this mare, though. If anyone hears or sees anything in the future I would be most interested in knowing if she got sold or was put on another site or whatever. If I didn't have two demanding mares and a sweet invalid of a cob right now.....
PS. I got a message from Anne but couldn't respond for some reason -- resend? |

I agree Martha, I have two already and have to think of them before overloading myself. It is probably a good thing I don't have my own land as every waif and stray would find its way up the drive.
I can't get her out of my head. |

I messaged te advertiser today to ask if the mare was still for sale and for more details.
Got a reply quickly-
This Shagya arab mare's name is "Brenta 3. " Owner says 'If you google her, her results come up. She competed in Europe and the Middle East. Her passport is impressive. ' and that " I've lowered her price. I've had a ridiculous amount of time wasters. She's due in April. The stallion is now in an eventing home. She will be in next weeks horse and hound."
Feel that lowering her price will result in more timewasters sadly......
Surely there's someone on AL who can step in and save this mare and her foal from going to an unusuitable home because she is cheap. I can visit, take photos, videos and maybe even help with transport if anyone is seriously interested in giving her a good home contacts me. I'm a short drive from Paignton where she is for sale. If you can help with rehoming PM me .
